HELLO! Check in what you are doing for exercise! This is day 4 in a row for me doing at least 1-2 hrs in guym a day and feeling better in body/mind/spirit! HUGS! Jamie ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Give Your Metabolism a Boost What is Metabolism? Simply put, the definition of metabolism is "the process in which your body either burns calories from food for energy, or stores calories as fat." The higher rate of metabolism we have, the more we will use our food for energy, storing less of it as fat. What affects our metabolism? Genetics: Some people simply have higher metabolic rates Age: calorie needs decrease with age, approx. 2% per decade, sometimes making weight loss more difficult as we age. Gender: womens' metabolic rate is typically 5-10% lower than men Dieting: extremely low calorie diets lower our metabolism Body composition: Body composition plays a vital role in your metabolism. Higher muscle mass leads to higher metabolism, while fat tissue has a lower metabolic rate than muscle tissue. What should we do to increase our metabolism and burn more fat? Strength training 2 or 3 times per week will help increase muscle mass. Even losing 5# of fat and gaining 5# of muscle will increase your metabolism. See a fitness specialist for proper strength training. Follow a healthy eating plan for weight loss; avoid quick weight-loss strategies. Did 40 mins plus 5 cooldown on the treadmill this morning for a total of 2.15 MPH and then 6 reps on the rowing machine and 10 reps on the ab cruncher. This evening I did 2 session of 30 mins each on my stationery bike and between the two bouts, I did some stretching exercises and sit ups. And I feel great! Sue
