Hello~
I have been lurking (LOL) around looking and profiles and asking questions here and there. Everyone is great on this site! Thanks to all.
Lately I have been reading that people get an angel? What exactly is an angel? Do you get one before surgery?
Hopefully I am having surgery in January- do I automatically get an angel around that time or do I have to know someone to be my angel?
Sorry I am just curious.

Angels is in reference to the term used in WLS. In WLS an angel is
someone who is also interested or has had WLS and is there to support
you, to email you, send you electronic cards, call you and check on you
during and after surgery, if they are close enough frequently they stop
by the hospital. They are there to answer questions and be a friend who
has gone through similar things. Many times friendships bloom and last
a lifetime! I guess that is the best explanation I can give. My angel
and I have become good friends even though we have never met --- YET!!
I have also angeled many and developed friendships-- many have
continued and developed into wonderful relationships. I consider them
all extended family-- sisters/brothers!! It is a real committment and can be a challenge at times, I have had many angellettes, and one that even passed away http://obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/members/wlsmemorial.php {Dominique Brandwen (New York, NY) July 4, 2006 } due to post-op complications (blood clots) sadly, but I continue as the benefit I feel for self/others is far outweighed by the risks!
HTH!
