Most of the doctors here seem to only want to perform the rny procedure

From my research when I was deciding on having WLS, I discovered that one of the most crucial issues to success and lack of complication after WLS was surgeon experience. The more experience, the lower the complication rate. 6 lapbands doesn't sound awfully reassuring to me. Can you get to Albany? The surgeons at Albany Medical Center and very experienced. I would be looking elsewhere if I were you.
Good luck!
Amy
Thank you all for the replys! Amy I can take the trip to Albany but was just hoping that a experienced surgeon would be close, just would be more convenient in Syracuse, but when you are talking surgery then it is worth the drive for an experienced doctor. Do you have a recommended surgeon in Albany? Is it possible to get fills locally or just better off going to the same hospital?
Dr. Kim does the lapband at SUNY Upstate. He was my surgeon, but I had the Lap RNY. Call Marcy at the Bariatric Center for more information. I know that it's pretty new there. I hear that it's harder to get insurance coverage because it's very expensive and still in the "experimental" phase. Just what I've heard. Good luck.

hi scott; I had my gastric bypass at University hospital by Dr. Howard Simon. All of the bypass surgeons there are excellent. Dr. Simon has a long history of doing trauma surgeries and transplant stuff. The lapband is a new procedure for them, but again they all ,have extensive backgrounds.University hospitall has a great track record. Feel free to let me know if you need any help. PATSY AMSTERDAM
