Well just had my surgery on November 14th at Lenox Hill. Everything went well. I find that I have to take the pain medication every four hours. I'm following the liquid diet but I can't drink alot of water. I feel like I have something stuck in my throat so I taking small sips of water only. I'm really tired but trying not to sit on the couch all day.

Wow, congrats to you! I was still in the hospital on my 3rd day. Expect to be tired for a bit, your body has gone through some trauma with the surgery, but your attitude about not sitting on the couch is a good one. Just pace yourself and you'll be fine. Congrats again to you! Sue

get you some sugar free popsicles....they will help you get in your water intake. I also think and I know you're tired, but the more you can get up and walk around the better you will feel and hopefully the pain will ease off. Good Luck on your journey G

Jennifer, Glad all went well hun now make sure you get your rest , Sip, sip all day long and the s/f ice pops are really so good right now. You will feel tired for a bit as your body is healing, you have been through some major surgery so our bodies take some time to get well again. Also the ice pops will help to sooth your mouth as well so it is all good. Keep us posted hun and I wish you only the best! Debra P

I am 2 weeks post op and I felt a tightness, I was able to drink. Doc said it was muscle spasms. They are just about gone now. Warm drinks helped. Good Luck to you

I'm glad to hear you are through surgery Jennifer. I also had a very irritated throat post op and they told me that was from being intubated. I wonder if the tightness you describe has to do with post op swelling from intubation? If you have any difficulty breathing, you should let your surgeon know right away. Otherwise, time should resolve it...although if you haven't let him know about the tightness, it might be a good idea to call and check in. All the other ideas folks posted like ice pops, and chicken broth are great. Also a nice cuppa tea feels great. Hugs, Amy

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I just wanted to tell everyone that yesterday was a really bad day. I felt depressed and kept thinking about food all day. I said to myself I should have just stayed fat. I'm felt this way because I did not have any energy to do anything (lack of protein and water). I just couldn't get anything down. However I was hungry and proved difficult when feeding the kids. The kids (my too very engergic toddlers) were driving me crazy. That too contributed to my depression. But then in the evening my husband brought home a protein drink by GNC 100% Nature Whey and I drank it and all of the sudden I felt much better. This morning the pain in my sutures have subsided and I feel a little more energic. Today I'm going to take a walk outside. I can't wait until I can eat real food even if its a little I know it will make me feel better. My doctor's appt is on Wed. Does anyone know if in one of there stutures there are two plastic pieces? It seems to be draining. I had my two drains taken out. I know I recall asking the doctor but can't remember because I was on pain meds. She said it has to be taken out on Wed.
