Mariela,
I had my gallbladder out well before my WLS but I know many that have had both done at the same time and it really does not extent your recovery or time out so it really is best to just have them done together. I know that most of us that had lost big amounts of weight have had problem or will have problems with their gallbladder, it is a side effect from losing weight. That is why mine went a while ago after I lost 50 lbs from a diet a while back.
I am sure others that had both done might offer some info as well but I know for sure that it really is not a big deal to have them done at the same time. Saves you from having to go back in at a later time and have another surgery since you know you have the gallstones already.
I hope that helped some
Keep us posted!

Hi,
Having your gallbladder out the same time isnt a big deal. All it is another 'snip snip' for the surgeon to do. Don't worry about it. I had to have gallbladder removed 7 months after my initial surgery b/c I was having horrible pains b/c it was backing up and full of stones.
You are just saving yourself another trip to the OR to have it removed later most likely. Good luck and dont worry!!

hello
i was the same way like you and i never had surgury before and the gastric bypass surgury was my first surgury and they took my gallabtor too, and everything went ok for me i did everything my doctor told me to do and i am two years post op now and have lost 206 lbs, and i keep the weight off i wighted 398 lbs before surgury and now i weigh 194 lbs and dont want to ever do back to being that big ever again. i hope everything goes good for you and i am looking for new friends, i hope you will be one of my friends, and i will ask any questions you have about the surgury.
