Hi guys, I went for my upper GI with small bowel follow this morning. The radiologist says he sees necrosis which is more than half of my small bowel is dying/dead from losing it's own blood supply which is why I have such paralysis in my bowel. Then he begins to mumble "oh but we need to print out the films and write up a report to your doctor blah blah" (They all just want to cover their own butts) Now I know I will defintely get put on TPN. If the TPN doesnt strengthen my small intestine, that whole section of intestine needs to come out. It is just a matter of when and what else I want done at the same time. I am beginning to think this surgery will never work for me. I am not saying that in a bitter mean way, just a realistic way, you know? I guess I am one of the lucky ones w/horror stories people pretend don't exist.(not you guys!) The only potential problem that can occur if I want to keep the bypass in place is something called 'short bowel syndrome' which is like major dumping/malabsorption b/c so much of my small intestine will come out. What they can do is attach the pouch back to the old bypassed stomach to try to avoid 'short bowel syndrome'...which is pretty much reversing the bypass surgery. This is pretty much my call. I am not at this point yet so I am hoping the TPN will help. I am just beyond frustrated and confused on what to do. On top of it, the doctors are driving me crazy and I got barium all over my shirt which is going to stain. Triple blah!!
