Does anyone have any hints for avoiding the late night cravings (besides going to bed at like 6:30)....they are killing me.

Hi, I find that drinking water helps, but when all else fails I chew gum. I think for me the act of chewing takes away the craving. Good luck!

Noralynn I am with you babe, since last july the night time snacking is killing me. So far nothing has worked and today I am trying a last resort attempt. Honest to goodness I bought a key lock door knob and tomorrow I put it on our kitchen pantry closet door . All the junk and bad snacks get locked up and I don't get or want a key. Hopefully this will help my snacking addiction? Good Luck Kenny

Hi Noralynn, I heard at a support group meeting that sunflower seeds is a good thing to try. I have tried, they are tasty, take a long time to open, chew etc and are not too bad calories, carb wise. Good luck I hope this helps you. Maryellen

Noralynn, I am not sure fighting them is the way to go for me so I chose to have better snacks at night say like some fruit, mixed nuts or soy chips. I also have some popcorn at night which is really not the best to eat but when I really want something it works! I try to stop eating after 8pm and it seems to help with the weight loss. Also the other thing is gum and water can really help, though I have a hard time doing that at night. I hope that helps some... Debra P

Tablespoon of Peanutbutter if that is not satisfying enough, smear it on a cut up apple. I also do dry high protein cereal with a cup of tea. Do not avoid the cravings just make different choices that will make you feel satisfied. Everyone is different so try different things out. Kimberly

Noralynn: Emotional eating/Night Eating disorder is common postop for many! Some tricks are: Eat high protein, low simple/refined carbs through the day, make sure u eat breakfast!, southbeach is a good way of life philosphy to decrease the physical cravings. Find alternative coping for the stresses of the day/life that when we get home we tend to graze thru the eve to numb those emotions (exercise is a good choice, others knit, sew, do crafts hobbies, listen to music, JOURNAL!) I personally do a protein shake in the eve and or do dinner late (7pm), I use the guideline that 8pm is no more food time only fluids and or a shake if I must, this habit works quite well for me. SO: Working on the emotinal eating, finding alternative coping, and eating strtegically timed/meal combos to optimally use the tool! HUGS!
