"High Risk"

Hey Fam, Well today wasn't a good day for me, I received the call from my surgeons office stating that my Dr will not perform the gastric surgery..He says I am at high risk for venous thromboembolism after he assist that I go to see and get cleared by a hematologist which I did and still he does not want to perform, he doesn't think putting a filter in and taking me off coumadin and putting me on heparin will work for me, his assistant insist that I should try having the lap band, but I wouldn't lose as much weight. I don't think I ever been so down in my life about something that I want but I guess this is simply not for me, I will except the result but still I can't believe that it is not going to happen.....I'm not sure what he thinks is "high risk" but I've read many of you guys profiles and always thought how did someone with serious health issues even had the surgery. Well my journey has come to an end, 2 1/2 years into this and nothing has happen, I don't have no more energy left for this, going back to square one again, trying the multiple diets and exercising ...I want to think you all for the support and GOD BLESS. Im sorry for your saddness and let down. I can't imagine how that feels.. Have you tried other surgeons? I would check around and maybe you can find someone who is an expert in the field that would take the chance. if you dont mind me asking, do you have a blood disorder or clotting factors are off? I wish you hope and peace with whatever out come you face...

Thanx for the respond, I have yet to get a second opinion. I recently was diagnosis with pulmonary embolism from taking birth control, they since then I've been on coumadin for at least 5 months now, I've went from taking 3 pills a day to taking 1 1/2 now, so I am assuming that my blood level is going good for me

I know your really down about this, but have you sought a 2nd surgeons opinion? I mean if the hemotologist gave you the go ahead...what is this surgeons problem? If they are going to do the lap band, then they should be able to do the DS, RNY, VSG, etc....there is minimal blood loss in each. I'm sorry your down, but really don't give up hope yet. Scott

Hey Deb. Thanx for the humor, I really needed a laugh, I haven't been in the mood for surgery talk for the last few days. Not sure what I'm going to do next, but i will take your humor with me

Good Morning Melvina! I go to a support group with a woman and she's lost a HUGE amount of weight on the lap band, she's not even a year out and i think she's down 126 pounds which is nothing to sniff at either. Keep your chin up, when G*D closes the door he opens a window, wait and find out where your window of opportunity is. Get a second opinion, I recommend the Westchester group of Yatco, Kaul and Cerrabona, they are an awesome bunch. Hugs, ANDI

(((HUG)))) sorry your going thru this! LIKE others said .....once you come to terms with what this guy is saying to you get a 2nd opionion. AND i know i had gastric bypass but i do see alot of very successful people that have lost huge amounts of weight at my surgeons office. SO dont totally rule that option out for yourself. ANY weightloss will improve your health and extend you life longer. GOOD LUCK! (((HUG))))
