Surgery in 2 weeks!!! Prep for surgery
Hi everyone!! I am having RNY in two weeks... I was curious if you can please inform me on what to bring to the hospital, a delicious protein supplement, how much I can lift after surgery and a sample of a daily food intake for the 1st phase of post op..
I have my nutrition forms and I know they tell me after my surgery but I would like your opinions and suggestions.> Thanks A Bunch

Hi Sheri!
I had my RNY OPEN surgery 9 days ago.
Bring the basics to the hospital...lose fitting clothes, mouthwash, toothpaste...etc. My Dr gave me a list of things to bring and it was all just basic stuff. BUT, bring a pair of shorts so you don't have to worry about your fanny showing while they are making you walk up and down the hall in that hospital gown thats open in the back.
As far as your protein supplement....ask your doctor in my opinion. I was told no lifting or driving after surgery and that won't change until my surgeon sees me on the 9th of NOV..
In phase 1, 2 days after surgery I was allowed 2 ice qubes every hour for the first day....then I went up to 6 ice qubes then day 3 I had a choice of chicken or beef broth (3oz), sugar free jello or a sugar free popsicle.
Now I am up to phase 2...clear liquids. losing weight like crazy!
The only things I suggest is ask them to catheterize you while your out
and walk a lot after surgery...up and down the halls while you are pushing your IV machine.
Hope this helps some.
GOOD LUCK SHERI! I hope in a year you are where you wish to be!
Doug

Congrats on being so close.....
As far as protein supplements everyone has different tastes and for some reason tastes change after surgery. Things i liked before i didnt care for after and vise versa.
Follow whatever your nurtion forms tell you.Get samples of protein supplements so you can try different ones post op and not waste alot of money. Each surgeon has their own post op plans and you should stick to what yours says.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Hi Sheri
Congrats on getting your surgery date
My RNY surgery is soon also, this Tuesday, so I too have been looking for the same type of info. I found a great page right here on OH that has an article with some pretty good info. It's titled "Nutritional Guidelines Following Weight Loss Surgery." Here is the link:

My thought and prayers are with you. I wish you the best with everything. God bless.
