Stabbing pains today!

Hi everyone! It's been awhile since I've posted. I come to OH when I feel scared or nervous about something and today I am. This morning, I was running late with my kids, so normally I have breakfast or my protein shake instead and today I had neither. Just a cup of decaf tea at 10:00 while waiting for my girls to get out of dancing. Then I went food shopping and attempted to eat a KA****grain bar. After about 4 little bites, I hunched over with a stabbing pain right about where my top incision is. It was the worst pain. I rushed to get home and tried to remain calm in front of kids. About 1 1/2 hours I dealt with pain until I finally was in tears. I called my surgeon and spoke to him. He called me in a script for Nexium and scheduled me for endoscopy on Thursday. It may be an ulcer! Have any of you had ulcers? I am trying to find out info on them and not finding much. Am I doing something wrong (besides today being a totally off day as far as my diet)? I took the Nexium and 15 minutes later, the pain was gone! I appreciate your replies! Hugs, Lisa

Hi Lisa, I hope you are feeling better. I have not had that experience with the pain, but it sounds like the Nexium helped you. Maybe you just had an off day since your diet was off, but I would go ahead with the endoscopy just to make sure. I am sure you'll be ok, just follow your doctor's advice. Good luck! Ida

Get the endoscopy and take the nexium, but it doesn't mean it is an ulcer. While ulcers are common in RNYers, from my understanding they are easily treatable with a little bit of medication. Normally they occur right in the intestines after the pouch, or in the blind stomach area. I'm not completely sure of this, but isn't nexium an acid blocker and as such i think it takes more then 15 minutes to work. Could it just be that you had a bad reaction to the Kashi bar? Have you ever eatten them before? Do you still have your gall bladder? Gall bladder pain comes on very intense right after eating, it's sharp and almost "crushing" like feeling in the upper stomach lower chest area. Perhaps the doctor can schedule a sonogram of your gall baldder while your at it. Lisa whatever it is...thank God you have a surgeon who is being proactive about this and not telling you just to wait it out. Scott

HEY LISA! LISA here... I was diagnosed with an ulcer.....i was scoped in JULY after i was throwing up coffee grinds... My diagnosis was an ulcer. I was put on the nexium...i wish i had realized the early signs...but either way 2 months on nexium i think im much better now. I do take OC previcid now to keep them away. I never took any meds that are nono's post op so who knows why i had gotten one. I got into some bad habits from feeding the ucler to feel better. WISHED i knew sooner. OH well live and learn! GLAD you phoned your doctor right away
