Antibiotics pre surgery?:-(

Has anyone had to take antibiotics prior to surgery? I am scheduled for surgery on the 10th. I was running a low grade fever yesterday when I was at my PCP's and she prescribed amoxicillin for 1 week as a precaution. Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks Britt! I did e-mail Dr. Garber but I think he sent the response to my work e-mail which I will see tomorrow. I spoke to Donna who said it was fine. I was just curious if anyone else had to take them prior. I'll see you next week!!

LC, I am with Britt, the email thing is great and it is so nice that Dr Garber has that option to be able to do this....I know in the beginning it really helped ease my mind with some things. I wish you all the best hun, keep us posted Debra P

Heya LC! My first thought was to call Anna Stoessel (If you don't have her card, I can email you her direct number...call me and let me know). She seemed to be really on top of what you can and cannot take pre-op. Then again, Donna Franco knows her stuff...but if you want additonal reassurance, try calling Anna. I can't see it as a problem because people with heart conditions have to take antibiotics pre-op. The only thing that *would* be a problem (I think) would be if you still had the fever the day of surgery. Stay healthy!! Talk soon Hugsss, Karen

Excellent tactic on your doctor's part! This also helps prevent post op infections, particularly if you have a urinary catheter.
