I also work nights, 12 hour shifts. I took 6 weeks off and I was a little nervous going back to work. I just packed my dinner and bottled water. I took too much food at first, not realizing just how much I would need or how hungry I would get. I work critical care, which can be very physical. My co-workers were great and were always there to help me if I needed it. It actually went better than I expected. Now I know what types of foods work best for me when I am working and I know how much to pack.
