Pre-Op with Dr. Kent Sasse in Reno Nevada
Hello,
I am new to this forum and I am wanting to have Bariatric Surgery. I have Hometown Health HMO through the State of Nevada. Does anyone go to the same office and what should I expect. I am going to a seminar 2-5-11 and scheduled the next following week for first time consult visit with Dr. Sasse. I live in Ely Nevada and it is 6 hours away from Reno. If you have any advice or have been to this office please let me know. Thank you.

Thank you Casey for getting back to me. I have Hometown Health HMO through the State of Nevada. Do you know anyone who has this same insurance. My insurance covers Bariatric Surgery, but I am not sure of what conditions they have to cover the surgery. I am 5'2 and when I went to my PCP doctor a week ago she had taken my weight and I was 289. I know that at this time I don't have High Blood Pressure, but I do have High Cholesterol, Fatty Liver, GERD, Headaches, my knees ache, my back aches, leak urine and other conditions. I am going to the seminar on Saturday and next week I go for my first consult with Dr. Sasse. I hope I get approved. I live in Ely Nevada. It is about 6 hours away. Is there anything that I should know about the office. Did you see a Psychologist and Dietitian. Did you take the Hyplori test. What happens if you test positive and take the antibiotics and it doesn't go away. I am just nervous. Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you again.

Hello, Dr. Sasse did my realize band almost 2 years ago. The people in the office are very nice and friendly (minus the front receptionist, I'm not a fan of hers.) It seems like when you call them it takes forever for them to get back to you and I always end up playing phone tag for several days before I can get in to see the; however, they are really good if you have an emergency and need to be seen ASAP. I did not have your same insurance when I had my surgery I had blue sheild blue cross PPO and they did require me to be refered from my PCP, to attend the seminar, to see a psychologist and dietitian, and to have the H-pylori test ( I believe that is required by WBI and not insurance.) My test came up negative so I didn't have to worry about the antibiotics. I believe I also had to have proof that I had been trying to diet for a certain amount of time before I would be approved for surgery.
My advice to you is to call your insurance and find out EXACTLY what they require in order for you to get approved. It may seem like you have to jump through a ton of hoops but to me the end result was worth it. I have lost around 100lbs and recently started loosing again. Good luck and hope that helps.
It seems at this point of time you had your first consult and I am sure you have discovered like the rest of us who go there, its a wonderful place. With sasse you are in fantastic hands. My experience with hometown health in the past the one thing i have to say is make sure you have the 6 month diet completed and documented. Other than that I hope your experience was great and look forward to checking in on your journey.
