6 month diet
I am in my 4 month of the pre-op 6 month diet for Cigna. I was wondering if anyone has heard of someone being denied because they lost weight during the diet? I figured if I could lose maybe 10-15 lbs in the next two months, it would bring the amount of weight I need to lose post op down so the likely hood of me getting to my goal with in the first year will be increased. If anyone has Cigna or anyother insurance and has a comment on this chime in please!!!!

HEY, I WAS READING YOUR FORUM AND I WANTED TO TRY TO HELP YOU. I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU. I WAS AT A 39 BMI TO START SO I WAS TOLD NOT TO LOSE ANY WEIGHT OR THE INSURANCE WOULDNT COVER ME. THEN AS MY 6 MONTHS WENT BY (DURING THE HOLIDAYS) I GAINED A FEW POUNDS, AND I WENT IN FOR MY LAST VISIT THINKING I WAS FINE CAUSE I WAS TOLD NOT TO LOSE, AND I ALMOST GOT DENIED FROM THE HOSPITALS CERTIFICATION BECASUE I HAD GAINED. I WAS SO SCARED. I DRIVE AN HOUR AND HALF ONE WAY TO THE HOSPITAL, EVERY MONTH, SO THERE WAS NO WAY I WAS GOING TO DO THE WHOLE 6 MONTHS OVER AGAIN. WHEN I GOT HOME I CALLED EVERYONE, THE DOCTOR THAT TOLD ME NOT TO LOSE THE WEIGHT, THE HOSPITAL PRE-CERT UNIT, MY INSURANCE ETC. WHEN I GOT THAT CALL BACK FROM THE DOCTOR SHE EXPLAINED TO ME THAT NO I WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO LOSE WEIGHT BECASUE OF MY BMI, OR THE INSURANCE WOULD NOT COVER IT. BUT THAT SHE COULDNT ACTUALLY CHART THAT IN MY CHART BECAUSE SHE JUST COULDNT. (YOU KNOW PROCEDURE OR WHATEVER) THEN SHE TALKED TO THE PRECERT DIVISION AND GOT ME AN OK. SINCE, MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAS APPROVED ME AND MY MOTHER IS FLYING IN FROM LAS VEGAS IN A FEW WEEKS AND I AM HAVING MY SURGERY ON VALENTINES DAY.
I HOPE THIS HAS HELPFUL TO YOU. I WOULD SUGGEST CALLINGYOUR HOSPITALS PRECERTIFICATION UNIT, THEY ARE THE ONES WHO KNOW IT ALL. THEY WORK WITH INSURANCE COMPNAIES EVERY SINGLE DAY. =)
My surgery is in one month and so far so good I have lost 11 lbs pre surgery with cigna insurance and my BMI has dropped below 40, but they are still taking me. I would be carefull not to lose too much, but with cigna they said if I didn't lose at least 12 lbs by surgery date, I couldn't have the surgery.
