Hi Pickles,
The info session the end of this month is where the Weight loss team will introduce themselves as well as what to expect and do in the program. You will hear from the nurse practicioner, dietician, psychologist, physio therapist, Dr ellsmere and a former patient or two. You will fill out a short info paper for them of some questions etc you will be weighed. and get all info needed to take you through what you need to know and do.

If you pm me your name i can add you to a group of people that are in the WLP facebook group ...they have either have gone through it or going through it... it is a private group hence why you cant find it in the search.

Hi. I am new here. Got a call last week that I can go to an information session about surgery. I feel like I have won the lottery...and I am scared..I have tried the facebook links but have not been able to find people in HRM (Halifax NS) who have had the proceedure here. Is there anyone who can give me any idea of what to expect ?
Peace

Topic: Duodenal Switch or R-N-Y?
Looking for input/feedback about the differences between the Duodenal Switch or the Distal (Extended) Roux-N-Y operations?  Has anyone here in NS had either one? Considering both for my revision but unsure which one is best for me...

Jackie having reasearched and having done alot of the work pre surgery and now having the sleeve...i wouldnt have wanted it any different.... yeas at first i was upset over the wait etc but looking back now..i am gla for it. IMO Too much value is placed on this surgery. people claim it to be the saviour of their lives...but in my opinion...YOU are the one that is the defining factor that makes everything works. people give themself too little credit... the VSG is just a tool...and like a carpenter with  his tool...if they do not have the training long before and have hands on experience...their houses they build would be shotty.  the tool doesnt make the carpenter...what the carpenter does with the tool makes him...and this is no different than the VSG.

Jackie if this gentleman would like any help from me i would gladly be there for him.... i am here for anyone.  I must say though, as the WLP states when first going in...they are there for you....BUT it is UP TO YOU on WHAT YOU DO TO HELP YOURSELF.  the ball is always in our court... n when we want in the game...it's there ...and the game is on...n many players to help you through.... but you have to get in the game and want to play..

Topic: RE: Anyone else doing Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy?
well if it is any word of encouragement, the WLP is doing all they can to help push as many through to help the wait times... last december it was a 10 year wait... now they are saying 5-7. to me this is a positive.  i had my surgery dec 6th... i had my one month check n since i am doing well i will have one more time in before they give me an early discharge so to help push  others through i the alotted space.  to speed things up... they are doing all they can with the funds goverment gives them.  for those waiting on the program... all downloads r readily availiable on their site.... i suggest you start anything you can now.... i did  before and am happier for it for the training and changes helped immensely in the mental side of eating with the sleeve. As the program says...what you do greatly affects the outcome....yes the sleeve is a great tool...but what YOU do is what makes it a success. Take it from me...that small stomach doesnt stop you from filling it often and with the wrong stuff...it doesnt stop the no exercise daily habit you MUST do...... the success falls on you and you alone.

I've been attending a weight wise clinic in Edmonton for the past 9 months. My GP sent me there to do weight wise modules, 9 in all, it took a few months because I live in fort mcmurray and have to travel there and its expensive. After the training my name went on a list to see a team of Drs. to assess my health and weight. I waited 2 years,I had mostly forgotten about, and quite surprised when they called to book an appointment. At first I was asigned a nurse went to Edmonton to see a nurse, cost 3-400$ just to drive down, stay over night and come back. Next trip was to see nurse(kathy) sherry(dietition)Dr Sharma(specialist in weight loss surgery).Cost more cause I had to stay 2 nights. First app. was june 2011, august 2011, october 2011 and just last week feb 23-24. Throughout these appointment I was nurse, dietition,dr. sharma.dr. Bonder(phyic) and psycologist. I got a call on the following monday to come see Dr. Sharma and Dr.Karmilia on april 11-12. I think they are going to schedule surgery, this is want the app.is about and they will decide if im ready.so all together it took 4 years so far and I might get in done in the next couple of months,I'm sooooo excited.
