Topic: finally
Well I finally got to see the hematolgist this week. After waiting for 6 months yes I said 6 months. Dr. Sharpe is here from Halifax for 2 weeks and I finally got to see him. He went over every test I had done and he said my blood is back where it should be more or less. No need to have my spleen out. YAAAA
The best thing though is he gave me the go ahead for
to have my surgery.
now I just have to wait for the report to get to Dr. Ellesmere's office to get a date for SURGERY. I talked to Diane today and she said she is putting my file on her desk so soon as she gets the report she will be calling me with a date. She said that it might take a few weeks to get the report tho. I am going to call the lab and ask Darlene when he would be sending it.He knows Dr. ellesmere and he knows how anxious I am to get the surgery. So I don't think it will be to long before I get the call again. I was suppose to done on Dec. 7th. so I keep thinking how far I would have been now. Oh well it will be soon anyway.
OK enough said. Just wanted to let everyone know where I am in all this.

Thanks Coreena......your post was helpful in knowing there are other doctors willing to do the surgery.......as soon as I saw the post I called them....I know the wait list is long so I was not upset wth your post I was more curious to see how many did the surgery
You are a great person for asking all the right questions to the surgeon so we are more aware of the issue.

Yikes but yes thanks for the info anyways. I hope that if they receive lots of calls that they will look into providing this surgery down the road. I guess I will have to go on the forever waiting list for Dr. Ellsmere or save save save and go to Mexico.
Topic: Next OWLSS Monthly Group Meeting for HRM
Hi everyone,
Just a reminder that our next Owlss monthly support group meeting is being held this coming Wednesday, May 25th 7-9 pm at the Lr. Sackville Sobeys Community Room.
In light of the recent topics of long wait lists and which surgeons are able to do surgeries in Nova Scotia, this should become a topic to discuss and perhaps brainstorm over how to work together and bring this to the attention of our Gov't and Media, and anyone else who needs to be made aware of the seriousness of our health care and persons needing the surgery.
Owlss is a support group which is peer led and open to anyone who has had, or are waiting to have weight loss surgery or who would like to advocate for Obesity & surgery in Nova Scotia.
Feel free to join us next week and share your ideas and questions with other people who are sharing your journey.

This is definitely a different approach than what we spoke about together. Dr. MacDonald did go to Halifax over the weekend, perhaps he found out that they are limited from what he originally told me. Because he was definitely clear on saying there were 3 surgeons available and can do 350 surgeries per year compared to Halifax!!! He was sincere saying he would like to help.
That is a sad fact and something Nova Scotia needs to fix, but I understand what they mean about only new patients that had previous abdominal because they do not do laproscopic as far as I'm aware of. Mine was open, but again, I had to have open due to adhesions on my liver.
My intentions were NOT to get anyone's hopes up, but to inform there MAY be a way to process this waitlist a little faster. ~Sorry!

I also called this morning and was told the same thing...........I was so excited to hear that there might be other doctors doing the surgery but was disappointed when I callled and they told me they don't do "new" sleeves :(.....here's hoping someday the wait won't be so long!
