Spoke to my internal med Dr... he is trying to contact Halifax about my spot in the list.. I told him they probably won't move me along faster on the list but it is worth a shot.   He is not opposed  to me going to Mexico but says he does not have enough information about the Dr's there to make a judgment call yet.  I respect his opinion and hopefully he can help me...of course I  would rather have it done in Halifax......He said that the Dr's here will not refuse to see me......if I do go to Mexico...with him on my side I feel this is going to happen one way or another .YAHOO!  It may just take a little longer then I wanted but at east it is not 10-15 years.

Hi, I have been on the list since Feb 2011.  The problem is that I have been getting more and more sick since that date and in turn my symptoms have been getting worse...go figure!  I know that I am probably a long way from the top but who knows...it is worth a shot.  It is just nice to hae someone in my corner as my GP Dr. does not appear to care.

I was on the list for 3 years and waiting. I made the decision to go to TJ Mexico with Dr. Kelly. It was the best decision I've ever made. I was sleeved on Nov. 5th. My GP can't believe how well I'm doing at just over a week out.She has always been supportive of my decision. She knew I did my homework. Dr. Kelly is great. Good Luck.

Do any of you know of any doctors in halifax/Dartmouth that have done the band?? I had my surgery in 2011 and I am being transferred from my work to NS and I need a dr to follow me and I am having a hard time finding one.  The private clinics won't take me since I didn't have my surgery with them... frustrated..

There is ONE bariatric surgeon in NS. You can google his name. He's in HFX.

From what I hear he won't look at ppl that he hasn't preformed the surgery on.

I have a referral in to a general surgeon for follow up.

My internal Dr. sent me a requisition to complete in Jan for liver function and cardiac functioning as well as the usual thyroid functioning tests.  I hope this a good sign.  I told him that my Dad had a heart attack at 43 and has heart disease as well as my grandfather soooo since I am now 42 hopefully they will do something.   I hope that it  works out and i don't want any negative comments as I am trying to do what's best with a small child at home. If this does not pull through I will be going the Mexico route in a minute.... In the new year life will be changing for the better!!!!!! And I can't wait!

Hi I am new to this site, and would like all the help you can give. I have done research on Dr. Kelly and would know like to take the first step towards a new life. Can anyone direct me it the right direction? How long from the first contact with the doctor does surgery happen?

Hi, welcome to the site.  From what I hear the surgery happens quite fast.  Within weeks!  I am trying everything in my powers to get the procedure done here but am willing to get it done in Mexico if I can't get in here soon.  I have spoken to the patient coordinator wit Dr. DeLeon in Mexico and she said that I can pretty much pick the date I want to have it .  I just don't understand why it is soooooo long to have it done here. 10-15 years I can't wait that long...I will be dead by then!

Hi again :) As for the reason why it takes so long here...I recently had a lengthy conversation with someone from Columbia Health and was told that Dr. E only operates on 3 patients per week. Why ? I don't know , but most of the doctors in Mexico do 5 + per day. I know that there may be risks going to Mexico and there is alot to be said about taking your time and all, but I would think that the doctor who has done 25-30 weight loss surgeries per week would know what the heck he is doing by now. The woman from C.H told me to follow the Pre-op diet that is on their website and everything should be fine. She hasn't heard of many complications and god forbid you do have something wrong , Dr's are not allowed to refuse to see you at the hospital's E.R. So now the only problem is what surgeon to pick...down to 2 now...Dr. Ponce De Leon and Dr. Kelly. Their prices are similar and both have many excellent recommendations. I have such a hard time making a decision and sticking to it !! Very frustrating, but you want to make the best choice when it comes to surgery.
