Tummy tuck...where to start?
Was just wondering if anyone in Nova Scotia has had a tummy tuck due to a large amount of weight loss? I know i hear its hard to prove medical wise, even though i have several medical reasons it should be removed! I was wondering what the first step into getting one done would be?
Of course if i can get it done medically that would be great, if not i guess i have to start saving my money. I just dont know what the whole process of it entails and if anyone has any info that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

i was under the understanding that you could get the extra skin removed but that is all they do nothing fancy. kinda cut and sew. If you want a tummy tuck with really nice results i think you would have to pay. http://successfullyslimmer.com/Cosmetic_Surgeries.html these guys seem to have good prices.
I had the full tummy tuck (anchor incision - includes lypo) and it was amazing, nice clean healed scar - super flat tummy & panni area. Done by my surgeon in 1993. Back then it was automatically covered by MSI, as a part 2 of the wls procedure. Now it needs to be shown that you are affected with the skin breakdown, etc, not just cosmetic reasons.
If you are having skin issues, you need to start with your doctor and go from there as I don't believe Dr. Ellesmere does the tt like Dr. MacDonald does.
Hope this helps!

Hi Ginny,
I don't think MSI covers any plastics for pannectomy or TT, but the QE2 has referred people to:
Dr Bender-Samuel and the website is:
http://www.landingsurgery.ca/index.html#subhead
It's a private clinic, and the prices used to be listed. Not sure if they still are.

Thanks everyone for the info. Sadly i have been asking my family doc about it but she doesnt know much about the process and such. I have had skin problems before the surgery and now that i lost the weight my skin hangs lower and i still have the same problems if not more frequent. Plus my lower back pain never did go away with losing all the weight and i was told it could be because of the *apron* of skin sooooooo i guess i better start saving up, cause i need it to be done!lol
kitty are the skin problems etc documented with your doctor? that is a good thing....that documentation is the proof that it needs to be addresses for your health...not to mention it affecting your back. I am sure the procedures covered are not visibly talked about for God forbid they would want anyone to take advantage of it and be healthy in this province..friggen government. If i hear of the potocol to follow i will let you know.
