Need help...
Im looking for information on procedures. Im 34 with PCOS and under activity thyroids. Im only 5"1 and weights 250lbs. I have 2 small kids and would love nothing else to play with them. But find it really hard. I live in Nfld and we have no one here to do the surgrey. If anyone knows of a Dr in Halifax can you please post a link here.
Hi,
I hear you. We have very poor resources here in NS for weight loss surgery. Only one Dr. in Halifax - Dr. James Ellesmere and the wait list can be 5 - 7 years depending on your health and how many major obesity related health issues you have like diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, etc.
Based on this I decided, as many others have, to go elsewhere to have the surgery. You can have it in Toronto without nearly the wait list as many Drs. do wls, but it is ++ expensive. I have to pay for the surgery and by far the best prices (about half the cost) are in Mexico, some places in South America, several places in Europe and in India. It takes research to find a good Dr. who uses a good hospital, etc., but I have finally gotten that done and have made a choice.
If I can be of more help, please let me know.
All the best,
MJ :)

Hi there, I had my 6 month check with Diana and Janet in December and what they said was that Dr Klassen was still doing surgery but was letting Dr Elsmere focus more on the VSG.
They also said that the primary reason things are taking so long now is because of OR times or lack of them that is. Dr Klassen and Dr Elsmere have been training other very qualified surgeons to perform the WLS but again it boils down to OR's.
Some rumours are that those with many co-morbidities are chosen first, this is not necessarily so in some cases as you need to have a certain level of health to be able to undergo the surgery, so things have to be in check and under control.
I was very lucky and had not co-morbidities (yet) but have taken this process very seriously from day one, from my starting point I had over 150 pounds to loose.
I know some people have gone out of province or out of country, and self paid, which I was fully prepared to do. When you are ready you'll line everything up as it should be and make the best decision for you and your family.
Try checking out the main VSG Board as well there are many people who would be more than helpful in answering more of your questions.
Best of luck,
Nadine
