Hi my name is Lois and I am happy to hear from you.

I did go to the info session in July.  One of the other girls who have been waiting as well got an appointment also.  I emailed Diane Lawlor to see if there has been a schedule made.  She said that I was on the list but that she woul get back to me if I was selected for an appointment.

Two days later she emailed me with the date.  I spoke to another girl who had her surgery in Halifax and she said that, that meant I was selected as a candidate for surgery.  She said that the first appointment after the info session is when you meet all the team players -- dietician, psychologist and therapist.  This will be followed up with an appointment to see the surgeon.

Keep in touch.   I will be happy to join your journey and we can travel down this path together if you would like that.

Hi Lois,

I am a Truro girl so I thought I would check out the NS Forum.  I am 12 days out from having a lap band and thought I would tell you about what happens in NB, which I assume is much the same as NS.

My first appointment was with the surgeon, Dr. B in Moncton, and after a brief chat he told me I would be a good candidate for the lap band, and that is the surgery I preferred.  I was worried about a more invasive approach, I had three abdominal surgeries and had a difficult time recovering.

Because my surgeon is with the Dumont hospital, which is French (bi-lingual & excellent) I had to wait six weeks for the one day information session.  They explain the three types of surgery Dr. B does and all of the details about each procedure.  Very informative!  They also go over your nutritional needs before, during, and after surgery and we met the dietitian for the Bariatric Clinic.

We are lucky here, we have a full Clinic with a surgeon, full time nurses as well as a dietitian and a therapist.  We met them all and they gave lots of insights.  It really felt surreal, as I never thought it would happen for me.

At the end of the session, we met Charlotte, a lap band success story, and she made everything feel real, and possible.  She offered her email and support and was just so happy!

That all happened in July, and I had kind of given up hope that my surgery would happen!  But two days ago I got the call - surgery on Dec. 8th.  It's a good thing I cut out the pop and fast food like they told me, because I am currently on a liquid diet!  Yummy!!!

If I can give you any other info just email me.  Lots of luck to you!  I am day 2 on the liquid diet and have lost 5 lbs.!
