I need help for the steps to take
You need to get your family doc to make a referral to the Clinic at the QEll.
They have over 1750 referrals as I type, so Diana says, she is the patient co-ordinator for Dr Ellsmere and Klassen. They try to see 200 patients per year.
So there is a 5-8 yr waiting list.
I said "SHAG THAT" and self paid and went to Mexico.
Good luck in your steps.
Be persistent....is all I can say.

I have resarched a lot in the last 9 months.........I could save you a few steps.
Put....."Halifax" in the subject line, if you email so I will see it in my trash, as I have a tight email blocker. LOL

Hi
Its very overwhelming starting out - where to go - who to contact - my first suggestion would be do your research on what type of weight loss surgery you would like to have performed- you can get a lot of info off of the OH board under the sugery types.
There is also a wealth of info on the internet and many books from amazon.ca- you will also want to speak with your family dr and his/her recommendations- and also I contacted many surgeons- in Canada-US and Mexico on my search for my surgery - its good to hear and speak with a variety of surgeons and their clinics - they will also bring valid points to the table about your health and what surgery they might recommend-
You will find it helpful to speak with people who have had weight loss surgery and speak with everyone of all surgery types.
I had RNY- gastric bypass in June 2008 - my health would not have held out the 5-7 year wait list in NS (I was told of at that time- its probably like Jane said even longer now) so I ended up selfpaying.
I did research weight loss surgery for over a year and although you may not find this length of time necessary - it is a process and there is a lot to learn and I am still learning at almost 12 months post op.
I will give you my surgeons website - its in Montreal and Dr Christou is one of Canada's leading Bariatric surgeons which after meeting him and reading up on him- I felt very safe in my decision to pursue the WLS option with him as my surgeon.
www.weightlosssurgery.ca
Good luck - there are many people here on the NS board and NB board who will be happy to answer any questions you may have. The Ontario crowd is also a wealth of info- the Quebec board is a lil less active but lots of helpful info for the asking.
hugs
