Hi Wanda
I am on day 2 of using optifast- I have a gastric bypass booked for June 10th with
Dr. Christou in Montreal........ I am not hungry but I have been dieting for about 3 weeks - it was when I got my date for surgery I started losing my appetite- nerves probably but it has helped cause I have already have lost about 12lbs so I think that is helping as to why I am not having any cravings or going nuts.
I was booked for June 25th but when seeing the surgeon for my consult yesterday in Montreal they had a cancellation and he said since I already lost some weight- one week on Optifast will be enough fasting- I thought well he is the expert so if I dont have to do two weeks on optifast than ok its a go for June 10th.
I always get low blood sugar and headaches/dizzy when I dont eat and I havent yet on the optifast and I do find it filling- not the greatest taste but I have not experimented yet with adding flavors to the chocolate or vanilla too see if I can make it a little more tasty!
Good luck you will do fine- its the start of the new you......... Keep in touch.
See you on the losers bench and good luck with your fast! LOL

I've had three prior stomach surgeries and was fine. It's not the site that hurts it's the gasSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!...Make sure you have pain meds for the drive home. Feeling better by the day..and after u get you dye testing done you will be relieved of the tube out of your nose/throat. and after that it gets better!!!

I knew it Donna! You went on the scales! hehe, I am going to do that shortly! Wanda ... you will do great. Since the program is still relatively new. Know your info before you go. What you can and can't do. Read all the material that was given you, and know it well. You will be on a surgical floor, it won't be with specialists. they, like you, are learning too. Hint ... if you can't take Tylenol 3 for pain now, you really can't afterwards. Insist INSIST, on something else. My surgery went great! The incisions don't bother me at all. I am with Donna, it's the gas!!!! Ask what can be done about that. Donna got Gas X strips, I think I will try that. I am so excited for each day to come! The time will pass quickly. You will find a calm come over you and you will do great on the liquids. Don't forget there are more to liquids than just meal replacements. What I do for the protein... I take out a scoop, and add a little to everything I am having that day. It is not overpowering and it gets it in. I got vanilla flavored, so it is just a mild taste variance. It was soooo awesome to have Donna as my roommate. We both wanted semi-private rooms, there isn't any on that floor. So, since we were next to each other... we closed the curtains off from the room and opened the one between us! Voila! Semi-private! It was great. Donna is great! It is really helpful having this forum to chat. It is an important part of recovery. Keep in touch. We are all going thru this in one stage or another, lets do it together! Hugs, Belinda
