Well had my phone consult with Dr. Coburn, a really nice, understanding, and educated man. Eased all my worries, very to the point with all questions and answers. The best part, my surgery has been booked for Sept. 21st (yes of this year lol) pending my tests come back without complications. Test required are Chest Xray (sp) ECG, and Blood tests. On Tuesday all of the finer details will be worked out. Have my flight booked return to Nova Scotia with insurance 460.00 what a steal, I love flying West Jet. I know the clinic still has openings for September if this is any help.

I am having the lap band, I know a few people who have had bypass, and they say they wished they had opted for the lap band. It just didn't seem the right path for me to take, to be honest it scared me a bit, this is much less evasive. No I am on the south shore. I am excited, but now that I am so close I am nervous. There are a few hurtles for me, first time on a plane since I was a child, traveling alone, finding my way around, staying away from my family from Thursday until Sunday lol which isn't bad, just don't like the idea of it being two provinces away. So it could prove to be quite an interesting time to say the least lol. I'll keep you posted, it should be quite the read with the luck I have! The doctor told me there is a woman in Pictou who does fills; she has a lap band herself so she is very understanding, and well trained with lots of experience. Well I have had all the excitement I can handle for one day so I am off to bed! Hope things go well with your research, if there is something I can help with let me know. You can check out the clinics (I am attending) forum at this link http://www.obesitysurgery.ca/forum/ it has all sorts of info. Take Care

Hi How are you doing by now? I hope you have had your surgery and are on your way to a new life and new lifestyle. I had my surgery at the same clinic as you know, and since I wrote to you last have had 3 fills with Bev. she does live in Pictou, which is quite a drive for me 31/2 hours but she is SO WONDERFUL! she has had the lap band and is so positive and supportive, she has been a real inspiration to me. She is wonderful to talk to and has great suggestions. I hope that I will only need one more fill but I will really miss seeing her on a regular basis. I have now lost 73 1/2 pounds and I feel great. I have been taken off some meds and am no longer borderline diabetic. I swim every day, because my knees had been bothering me, and now I LOVE it so much it is my exercise of choice. I hope things are going well for you, are you on regular food yet? how is that going? I still find some foods difficult to eat, ( bread, rice, red meat especially) which I can live without. Are you finding some foods don't settle well with you? I am anxious to hear how things are going for you. Sheri

Hi! FYI another great place to get Lap-Band surgery in Ontario is the Credit Valley Clinic in Mississauga. Their website is www.creditvalleyclinic.ca They are a group of three really nice, experienced surgeons. As far as I know the fee for Lap-Band surgery CAN be claimed at tax time. There are ways to have fills done locally and not have to travel back to Ontario every time... Best regards.
