Hi, I'm new here, just researching options. It was fascinating to read your account of going to India for your surgery. Congratulations on your successful weight loss! I'm curious, why did your husband decide to have his surgery in Montreal? Thanks for answering, Deborah.

Hi, thanks. he wanted the lapband and the cheapest and most convenient option (no 25-hour-flight) was in Montreal (cost us 7,500 +travel). I wanted a gastric bypass (because I was a sweets addict and you get punished with that) and that is harder to come by and was cheapest in India (and just as good as in the states for twice the price). We both didn't want to wait.

Hi Christine!! I was just curious where your husband went in Montreal to only pay 7500 plus travel?? Everywhere I have researched thus far has been 12-15000! My sister-in-law had it too and paid 15000, in Montreal. Any info you can pass along would be great! Thanks Krista Cook

Hi, he went to Dr. Leclerc in the Hospital Dieu. He had to wait for 1 year to get it. We paid 4500 for the band, 2000 to the surgeon and 1000 to the anesthetist. MSI paid for the hospital. If you want a contact phone number, email me.

Have you applied to MSI for approval of your surgery and are you getting RNY or lapband. I don't think MSI will cover for lapband? I'm at the beginning of the process myself trying to convince my Doctor that the RNY surgery is worth having.....my BMI is 40.4 but he doesn't think I look FAT ENOUGH. Can you imagine......he is very skeptical but I did my research and I'll let you know if he comes around.......
