Hey there cowgrl!  Yes, the Labor Day weekend was a blast!  I think my husband and I are going to try and have a big bash like that several times throughout the year.  He is a wonderful chef and absolutely loves cooking for a crowd.

I didn't know there was a surgeon who was opening an office in ABQ.  I'm sure there are going to be a lot of people who will be happy that they won't have to go out of state for their checkups.  I had my surgery done in Flagstaff (my doc was a hunk of hunks as well... hose me down, that man is handsome!).  It seems like a city the size of ABQ would have several surgeons chomping at the bit to get patients for WLS.

It's too bad you'll miss the M&G on the 20th, we'll have to keep you posted on the date and time for the next one.  It should be a blast and it will be so good to meet fellow weight loss individuals.

Have a great day and stay in touch!

Anna,
So sorry to hear you won't be able to make it to Guy's for the M&G but hopefully we are going to make this a monthly thing and you will be able to attend future gatherings.  And, yes, it is incredibly nerve wracking when you are preparing for the surgery, at least it was for me.  I actually started to have a couple doubts but they quickly vanished once I started weighing the pros and cons of having WLS.

I think there are probably quite a few WLS folks in ABQ but they don't visit the NM board much (the board has been a bit dead for awhile, hence, we are trying to wake it up).  My family, like yours, is also very supportive but sometimes you really do need that person who has "been there, done that" and understands all the emotions that come with WLS.

Hope to meet you soon and please stay in touch!

Kelly girl!  How the heck are you today?  Charlie and I are talking about hitting the fair next Monday so we can avoid the crowds.  I'm with you, it's going to be a bit of a challenge trying to avoid all the good eats but I have faith, we can do it!

We're up in Farmington for a few days, not much planned other than visit with family.  We had dinner with my son and daughter-in-law last night, it was great!  Jimmy grilled some of the most tender steak and Jennifer fixed veggies on the grill.  They're so sweet, they know that I don't do the junk food anymore so they only cook healthy when I'm around.  As for tomorrow, it's off to Durango for another Dr's appt (the oncologist appt today went great!  My enzyme levels are all back to normal!)

Cowgril, it is so good to see you here!  Hope to see you at the M&G on the 20th at Guy's place!

Cowgrl53, are you in New Mexico or New Jersey, like it says under your profile?  Tried to look into your profile and it says something like you are either keeping it private or don't exist, Huh?????

Terri Clark has a fabulous voice, that would be a good show.  I love seeing all the baby animals and art work.  Hope we go soon.

Hello everyone from New Mexico...  glad to see that we are ALIVE!!   I often review this NM forum and it is very quiet....

Glad to see you had a wonderful Labor Day weekend Kat... I love get togethers and the fact that you actually lost after all that yummy food you named off makes it awesome....
I am a slow looser and I really try harder when we have family get togethers because I just know when my family gets together I will hear "well look at her" had the surgery and still pigs out....
Anyways,  I had to think for a while what DIL meant and then I got it.  I use to get pissed when my husbands Mom would call me that because I felt that I talked to her like a mom, called her mom and did things that a daughter would do that she could call me her daughter, and she now does with dropped the barrier between us......
Anyways,  hello again to everyone in NM.  I had surgery with Dr. Lara in El Paso and he is the cutiest thing......   I was surprised to see that they are opening an office in Abq, which is great then I won't have to travel as far for appointments for followups...
Sorry that i can't go on the 20th..............  but I will look forward to everyone's response to this fourm..
Cheers,

Good Morning Kelly,
We did not go to the Fair (yet)  I hate going every year because there usually isn't a change from the previous year and that gets boring, although my husband does want to go to the Rodeo and Terri Clark is preforming this weekend which I know he would like.
I do find that my sugar really drops and eating protein really does help.
Skin.......   well I have dropped 67 lbs since last November and I have loose skin under my chin, my inner thighs and my stomach.......   I don't think I will ever be able to get that skin to tighten up and it does bug me.  I wear shorts to the top of my knees and I have tried doing lots of arm exercises but my bat wings keep a flapping.  I can't nor will I ever be able to afford Plastics and to tell the truth I don't think I could go through the pain of having that skin cut a way......  so I can live with it.
As for my hair, I am still on Biotin and my hair is coming back and I will probably stay on it just like all the other vitamins I have to take.......  not a biggie taking one more and i like that it has strenghened my nails..

Have a great day!!

Thanks for the friendly reply!!
I'm waiting for approval for RNY with Dr. Lara in El Paso. I went to El Paso on 9/3 to check things out. Dr. Lara and Dr. Acosta are the only surgeons covered under my insurance. They both seem qualified and their staff seem competent. I'm still incredibly nervous. Normal, right?

I work most weekends, so I don't think I'll make it to Guy's party. But with advanced notice I can always make arrangementsfor next time. I'm a nurse at Lovelace downtown.

Are there many WLS folks in the Albuquerque area? I went to the seminar Dr. Lara's group had on Aug 23, there was probably 100-150 people there. Dr. Lara and Dr. Acosta are opening a clinic in Albuquerque before the end of the year. I think it will be mostly for the lap band fills.

Thank you for your support. I feel like, even though my family is supportive, I need someone who's been there, done that! Especially after the initial weight loss occurs. I know each type of WLS comes with its own needs, but long term we will probably all be struggeling with a lot of the same issues.
Looking forward to meeting you guys, Anna

Good Morning New Mexico!!  What's everybody got planned this week?  Did anyone go to the State Fair this weekend?  How was it and was there anything special I should look at?  It's going to be a bit strange this year NOT eating all that fried, sugary food that will be staring me in the face.  I hope there's SOMETHING there I can have or I'll have to bring my own snacks.

I recently found out I'm hypoglycemic, has anyone else had to deal with this?  I know to eat more protein, more often, but what do any of you do?  I'm also looking for advice on how to handle body image and this ever growing flabby skin.  I'm trying to up the exercise, but wonder, will the skin take time to shrink, or will what I have just stay this way until surgery?  I'm sure genetics and age play a part, but to those of you who've been down this road a while, did you notice if your body was still shrinking even a year or more later?  It's been about 9 months since surgery and thank God my hair is starting to come back, so I think I'll stop the Biotin for now.

Hope everyone has a great week.  Kelly

ahart, welcome aboard!  You're absolutely right, support is a must!  Keep us posted on your progress and your surgery date.  Do you know where you are going to have surgery and what type?  By the way, there will be a Meet and Greet on 09-20-08 at 7:30 p.m. in ABQ at Porky's Pride Bar-b-que (it's on 4th).  Guy, one of the members of the NM board, is the owner of Porky's Pride and he has been kind enough to put up with us for an evening!  Should be a blast and if you are able to make it, drop Guy a note so he has a head count.  We look forward to traveling this journey with you!
