Topic: Any Roswell Aliens? just kidding about the aliens....
I might help start one if there are interested people. It would sure be neat.....post and let me know.....I could get some ideas from Richard...of course we are not ABQ so it would probably be more social than anything.
Topic: RE: Anyone from Santa Fe?
Hi Kim:
I lived there for quite some time and recently moved to Las Cruces last year leaving a good paying job to be with my husbands family.
Santa Fe is a very nice but tight in space place. The median house price has now $362,000. which is a far cry from when we owned one just a few years ago (median then was $250,000). The yards are never really big enough - or at least I thought so. Depending on the neighborhood you may be part of a subdivision neighborhood association. These associations can be quite tasking if you have the wrong place to live with. Some dictate the color you can paint the house, whether or not you can remodel and if it fit the Santa Fe motiff. So thats just a little bit of the Santa Fe way. Oh - and in most neighborhoods with good houses you can not park on the lawn... big NO NO. lol
The schools, well some are good others are not so good. Becareful with the area you move into... some are zoned for schools which have the unfortunate rep of being with unruly juvies. If you want to pay for schooling, then there is St. Michaels (catholic) Santa Fe Prep these two have a great reputation for high quality as well as high prices. So be prepared to do your homework prior to getting your kids in any of these High Schools. They required an interview along with I think some type of test. Not too sure... but you can call and find out.
There is some nice housing that was going up near the Santa Fe Community College area which had reasonable housing a few years ago... but like i said I have been out of the loop for a few.
Good Luck.. I hope that helps.

Topic: RE: APPROVED!
Hi Dorise,
I began the process with getting approved for OUT-OF-NETWORK services with CIGNA more than a year ago. I first got approval for the consult and then battled about a year and a half for the surgery. The 6 month documented diet was the kicker. We documented that and then they wanted the psychological completed prior to approval. So we completed that. We ended up including my exercise history from Curves as well.
Watch what the insurance company sends to the appeals unit. This last time prior to approval the insurance company left off 22 pages of the appeal. Susie at Dr. Castro's office faxed themn the missing pages and the denial was reversed.
Work with Susie. She is teriffic!
Dr. Castro is a good surgeon. During my hospital stay, I never had to use the morphine button. Try to get the Lap RNY.
Am not having problems. I'm at the point where I'm beginning to eat soft foods and add in others. If all surgeries are like this one I would recommend it to anyone.
Let me know if I can help in any way

Topic: RE: APPROVED!
Congrats Kathy... I am starting the process with the same Dr. Can you tell me why it took so long? I have Cigna but they dont cover this on my insurance. Tricare does for me. But I am not over 40 BMI, but have other complications which may qualify me.
Topic: RE: How do I begin?
Hi, Colleen,
The best way to start is by asking your doctor how he/she feels about supporting you for WLS. There are a number of good surgeons around, just not in NM. PHP is supportive as long as you meet their requirements, but right now, the only surgeon in network is Eldo Frezza in Lubbock. Probably in the next three months, Robin Blackstone in Scottsdale will be getting into the network also.
Check Richard's message just below yours, and come to our next support meeting on 4/20 @ Presbyterian Medical Group next to the Northside Medical Building. Check out our website!
Dr. Blackstone is also going to have a seminar on April 30, more details to follow. Her group is Scottsdale Bariatric Center.
Hope to see you at a support group meeting!
Jean
Topic: How do I begin?
Hello to all,
My name is Colleen. I am from Abq. I am just at the very beginning. I am looking for help with some of the particulars. For example, How do I approach my dr.? Who are the best surgeons? Do I need to find the surgeon or will my dr.? How do I deal with my insurance (Presbyterian Health Plan)? For any one who has PHP, how reseptive are they to WLS? Of course I have a million questions, anything anyone can tell me would be most appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.
