Topic: Plastic Surgery & United Healthcare
I was wondering if any of you have had United Healthcare and had them pay for plastic surgery after you lost your weight. I am meeting with my surgeon for the WLS the 6th of July but want to research the plastic surgery should I need it. Any insight that you could give to me regarding United Healthcare and this process would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Allison, Abq New Body Beginnings meets on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:00pm at the Presbyterian Northside Medical Group Building on Harper, the second building east of the northbound Pan American Freeway frontage road. It's the building that has the Urgent Care in it. You go in and make a left to get to the elevator, go down to the ground floor, make a left out of the elevator, and we meet in the room straight ahead, next to the cafeteria. You're more than welcome to join us. We also have a web site on Yahoo Groups/ANBB. Jean

Congratulations on your approval. You are on your way. I had surgery Oct 18 and I am down to 155. It is so unreal. I have never been this size before that I remember. I can wear a size 12. I am from California but we are looking at some properties with Pecans in your are. Actually Hatch and another area called Mesilla I think. I have also been looking at alamogordo. Maybe soon I will be joining this board as a state member. Keep up the good work and I look forward to you joining the losers side. This is the first time being a loser is a good thing LOL Erin Godinez

I would try another Dr. that is covered with Tricare. I thought NIH standards were 40 BMI or 35 BMI with at least 2 comorbidites(sp?). Do you have documented joint pain, arthritus, Hypertension, Diabetes. Sleep Apnea would also qualify as a comorbidity.

Topic: What do you want at OH events?
Hi everyone -
I just was sent a great idea from Red Haired Girl and I had to thank her in front of all of you -
Here is part of the e-mail:

" She moves with the insouciance of someone who has always been 120 pounds, except when she stands up, when she looks a bit as if she's been fired from a slingshot. ("It's like, whoa-I'm used to going for the big lunge.")

This made me wonder if at your OH events do you ever do breakout sessions on movement. Not exercise. But movement. Teaching us how to move gracefully. It is something that many people never even think about. I do not see it discussed on the boards. With all of the changes ones body goes through after losing hundreds of pounds one probably does not have to stand up or sit down, walk or even gesture in the same manner as one did when heavy. One would probably be physically a little bit better abled to do it with more grace. If one knew how. Just a thought.

Red Haired

I thought that was a perfect class topic.
So here I am thinking - I am sure all of you have wonderful ideas out there - I would love to hear them - So I am asking the question -
What do YOU want to see at the ObesityHelp events?
We are looking at many things and would like your opinions to count in, as we are going to make these events bigger and better and what our members want to see, hear and do.
So the floor is open and I am listening...
This is your time to let us know - what you would like....

Thanks for taking the time to help us all grow stronger and better.
We are a family here and I need my brothers and sisters to help me with some fresh ideas.

If you would prefer to e-mail me:

Ugh! I'm sorry this is happening to you! How frustrating. The only thing I could say is go ahead and jump through the hoops--My Dr in Lubbock requires a sleep study from the get go...sooooo....no help in going to him at this stage and I'm not aware of any other surgeons. Please keep us update and good luck! am

Well although Tri-care has approved my surgery, now the Dr. office called me only a day from the appt to say the Dr. feels I may or may not be a candidate for the surgery despite the approval. My BMi is 37.5 but I have borderline diabetes, had gall bladder etc... and they now want to do a sleep apnea study. I guess from what I gather I was 7 out of 10 questions which may have an indication to this problem... which would then qualify me. She did say "if you were only 40 BMi then you would have no questions for being a candidate for surgery, but since Im being held against the NIH standards I need something "Lifethreatening".. Has anyone out there got this last minute stuff??? And how did it turn out? OR can you see another Dr. for surgery with your approval... or am I facing the same stuff with another Dr. Figured I throw this one out there to you guys... help. Dorise now im very worried..... darn so close yet sooo far away.
