Hi Mary,
I'm very happy with the GNC 100% whey protein shakes, I love the chocolate and the banana creme. I don't know if you've tried those.

Topic: RE: HAS ANYONE HAD BOTH THE LAP BAND AND SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY?
Hey Stephen
I had the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy with the Lap Band on Dec. 12, 2005. I'm happy with it. I was supposed to have the RYN but my liver was in bad shape and they were afraid to slice through it with all the re-routing. So Dr. Frezza's office called me the week before my surgery and said they were doing the VSG w/Band and they had to do it early. So, after no deliberation or thought of this surgery I just went for it. I trusted that he knew best. In two weeks I will be 6 months out and I have lost 80 lbs. I've only had to go for 1 fill but am feeling like I need another. It's weird, sometimes I can really eat a lot and others I can't, sometimes I'm hungry, sometimes I'm not *shrugs* I know I could be doing better than I am as far as the food I'm eating. I was told by Dr.'s office when I went for my fill on March 27th and was down 60 lbs that I was doing great so I feel ok with where I'm at. The surgery was nothing. I went in on Monday the 12th and left the hospital on the 13th. I stayed one extra night in Lubbock just to be sure. I was off my pain meds that same week. I had 4 small incisions under 1/2 inch and 1 where my port is that is about 1 inch. I soaked up the time off from work and stayed off for almost 2 months. All in all, it wasn't all that bad. Good Luck!

Philadelphia Gathering of Friends of WLS
Friday, October 6, 2006 - Sunday, October 8, 2006
Adults Only
Registration Deadline is September 1, 2006
Late Registration Deadline is September 15, 2006
These weekend gatherings are about meeting and connecting with people who can understand the journey we all have taken and to have fun with fellow WLSers and support people. And this year is something a little special, a Halloween Costume Ball! You can even win prizes for your costumes! So grab your ghoulish gear and come see Philly in the Fall.
We have finalized the Hotel Information for the Philadelphia gathering. The cost of the hotel is $99.00/per night, this is per room. You can call the hotel to make your reservations at 1-800-325-3535 or (215)547-4100 by September 15, 2006: Ask for "FRIENDS OF WLS".
Sheraton Bucks County Hotel
400 Oxford Valley Road
Langhorne, PA 19047
The hotel has a pool, hot tub, sauna and gym for guests to use at no charge. As a lot of people did at past gatherings, we recommend doubling and tripling up in rooms.
If you are flying into Philly, the best choice is Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) which is about 30 minutes south of the hotel on I-95; but you could also fly into Newark Airport (EWR) in New Jersey, which is about 1.5 hrs from the hotel. Cabs are available to the hotel, but we will try to organize our own little shuttle service, if we know what time people are coming into the Philadelphia airport. Remember, "You have a Friend in Pennsylvania" is our state motto- we will get you to the hotel!
Please feel free to bring your Significant other or Support person, but children will not be allowed at the Friday night or Saturday night events. In addition, the Philadelphia area has a wealth of nearby attractions and shopping. The hotel is down the street from Sesame Place for those interested in a family activity.
We will be releasing a full itinerary later, but a very brief overview is as follows:

Topic: Hello from CA...
Hello fellow WLS peeps. My sister, myself and my 2 nieces are planning on from CA to CO the last week in June and the way we plan on getting there is driving through Arizona and New Mexico. Looks like we will be traveling on I-40, 1-25 and 285. As we will be driving through, is there anything off the freeway that might be of interest that does not take too long to see.
Since we will be driving 18 hrs. to our destination, we don't want to spend a lot of time stopping and seeing things but need places to stop, rest and stretch our legs.
Any input and info would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Sherri

Topic: RE: ANYONE IN NEW MEXICO?
Their are people in the Albuquerque support group who have had their surgeries performed by the Del Sol group in El Paso and they seemed happy with the results/care. Also someone had Dr. Applebaum perform her surgery and I believe he is in El Paso also. If you have family in Las Cruces, it does help. I had surgery by Dr. B. Dean McDaniel in Victoria Texas and he is an excellent surgeon and has a great bariatric group, but it is a ways to travel. I have family there, and that has helped me so much. Best of luck to you, Robbie
Topic: RE: Psycologist in Albuquerque
Dr. Brenda Wolfe is terrific. Also, there are two others that I know of: Dr. Janet Robinson and Dr. Elizabeth Dettmer. All are in Albuquerque and I believe all have done psych evals for the surgery. Best of lucK and congrats on your surgery date, Robbie
PS. In Albuquerque, we have a group that meets 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month. It's a grass roots organization, and since no docs do bariatric surgeries in New Mexico any longer, most of us have gone out of state so there are a variety of surgery types etc. We also have a yahoo group. Just email me or post here if you are interested.
Topic: RE: Psycologist in Albuquerque
Hi Tony,
It is probably too late, but I can recommend a psychologist in Albuquerque: Dr. Brenda Wolfe. She is great and has done many of these evaluations and testings for WLS.
Good luck with your surgery!
Judy
