Topic: RE: I HAVE BEEN APPROVED!!!
I know many people who have gone with Dr. Syn. Does he do the proceedure Laproscopically? I was told he only does open surgery. Anyway, everyone seems to really like Dr. Syn. Sounds like your in good hands. My family is fantastic, and has been very supportive. I admit some of them do not agree with my choices, but they still support my decicsion. I just wish I didn't have to wait so long... I'm told Dr. Blackstone is worth the wait, so I will wait. I am sure I will not be disappointed. Richard I

Topic: I forgot to mention....
Hello again everybody, I am still on track for my surgery in May, but I have not done as well on changing my behavior as I might like to have. I am supposed to loose 35 lbs before surgery, as incorporate exercise into my weekly routine. I also have to get cardiology clearance. I was supposed to see the Cardiologist two weeks ago, but he had an emergency procedure at the hospital. So I go in on Monday to get started with the process. He will do an echocardiogram and schedule a nuclear stress test. After those are completed, I don't do anything else until April. In April, I will have more tests and see the Doctor one last time before surgery. Hope all is well with you all... Happy New Year Richard I

Topic: Posting on the NM site
Hello New Mexico, I am going to plead once more to the WLS people in NM. Please Post on this site regularly. It is such a wonderful resource, that no one is using. Who knows better than others going through WLS (pre and post op) what we feel and might be going through? It also provides a wonderful opportunity to network, build new friendships, and find people nearby that can serve as a support group. I am still in the planning stages of WLS, but I have found the people in NM wonderful sources of information and support. Let us work together to help others just starting to look into WLS find their way, encourage those who are working towards WLS, and support those who have already been through WLS.

Topic: RE: Looking for surgeon who accepts medicaid....
Hi Gina I am doing fine. No complications I am able to follow my Drs. protocol and I am down 25 lbs. I was hoping for more but my Dr. said that sometimes people that had type 2 diabetes sometimes take a little longer to lose. That's great that you grew up in Lubbock I just love that town and everyone is so nice and friendly. I attend support group meetings In Abq . I will contact you when I go next time and maybe you can join me. Everyone is very nice and informative. Take care, Mary Ann

Gina, I had to chuckle about not trusting anyone in New Mexico to do the surgery. I live in Santa Fe and I panic anytime I take my animals to the vet. I have ins. through my husbands employer but I had my rny in Lubbock Texas with Dr. David Syn. I did alot of research when selecting my Dr. The only place I would have rather gone was So Calif. Dr. Syn is a wonderful Dr. and I beleive that one of his patients said that he accepts medicaid. Good luck on your journey. Mary Ann

Topic: RE: MEDICARE PROPOSES NEW COVERAGE POLICY FOR BARIATRIC SURGERY PROCEDURES
Hi there! I am new to all of this and hoping to get LapBand surgery but can not find any info anywhere regarding the process in which to follow under Medicaid. I'm finding lots of information regarding Medicare but I am only 35 yrs and not really willing to wait until my golden years to qualify for Medicare...lol. ...besides the reason that I qualify for Medicaid at this point in time is due to the fact that I am a full time student so I was hoping to get it done while I was still in school and still eligible for Medicaid. I was wondering if you might have any information regarding WLS and Medicaid to share? Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks a bunch! Gina- Los Alamos, NM :help:

Hi! I am in the same boat....I would not trust anyone in New Mexico to do it. What about a neighboring state? Have you found out any information regarding WLS and Medicaid? The only info I have been able to find thus far is on Medicare. Thanks!

Congrats Beckey!! Sounds like you have done GREAT despite all of the trauma that you have had to go through. Please do pass on my name & email [email protected]. I have heard of the support group, but I have not been. I checked into Dr Syn & the other doc over there in Lubbock, but one was not in BCBS provider network & the other one quit doing the RNY & is only doing Lap Bands. I can't remember which is which, but I would call the one that quit doing RNYs over & over to see if they could get him to change his mind. So, when they wouldn't change their mind, I decided to have my surgery in Dallas. I wish that I could have done it much closer because I didn't have any family that was able to come to support me at the hospital due to work issues. I made it though, but it would have been nice to have family there. Thanks for replying and I am looking forward to hearing from you again. Lisa
