Topic: RE: Hotel in El Paso
Hi, I know this is almost one year too late for you, but I just recently went through the surgery process etc. in Texas and this is what I did. The first trip for the initial consultation we stayed at the La Quinta (recommended by Dr. Acosta's office) we paid 69.00 for one night with our AARP discount. Turns out if you mention you are a patient of Dr Acosta you get the room per night for 49.00. We didn't know... anyway it turned out to be a bad experience. The room was not very clean, the blankets were pilled and worn. I didn't want to go back there.
Next visit, I bid on price line for a room. We got the Fairfield Inn (marriott) for 40.00 a night. We booked it for a week. It had a small refrigerator and microwave. There is a complimentary breakfast bar. It was extremely clean. It took 25 minutes to get to Dr. Acosta's office. We thought it was worth it.
For my two week follow up appointment, we tried priceline again, but couldn't get the 40.00 rate so I went to Expedia and bid on a three star hotel (there's only two in El Paso) and got El Camino Real (downtown) for 54.00 a night. We stayed there 2 nights. We had a wonderful time. It was beautiful and really enjoyed our stay.
Dr. Acosta's office has an agreement with Comfort inn and La Quinta. If they forget to tell you, ask them. And don't forget to mention your a patient of Del Sol Dr's Acosta and Lara.
Hope this helps anyone who is going to stay in El Paso.

Hi Everyone - I had my surgery on Nov. 4 and my first fill on Nov. 29. I think I am doing great. The weight loss seems a little slow but I am not in my "green zone". I must say that WLS is the best thing that I have done for my health! Look out 2011!

I had to go to the bathroom and shed a few tears OF JOY at work a few minutes ago. I have been approved according to my insurance company for my lap band! My bariatric center has not received the approval yet but they will.
What a life changing experience this has been and will continue to be... I have completed my 6 months of supervised monitoring and weight loss and have made significant changes that will support me along my new path to a healthier life. I must say I feel like I am hatching out of an egg and the best it yet to come. Please don't think that I am not being objective about what the future holds because I have researched this for literally years. I know that I have challeges to face in the future but I also know that I am strong and will survive the slippery slopes!
Only one person knows about this at my work but I will come out once I have a date scheduled. It could be in three weeks.
Just needed to share with others moving down the same path that I am.

Drs. Lara and Acosta are surgeons located in El Paso, TX. They also come out once a month and for clinics in Albuquerque. Here's a link to their website:

If you are just wanting follow-up care, you can also do that through a Primary Care Provider. Rny is pretty common these days...
I look forward to meeting you too! I think you will find our group very helpful!

HI,
I am moving to ABQ in November. I am having Gastric Bypass surgery in October. I am looking for a doctor in ABQ that can help with follow up care. I was hoping that you or someone in the ABQ support group could help. I haven't been able to find a doctor via internet. I didn't find a Doctor Acosta or Doctor Lara when doing the search.
Thanks in advance for you help. I look forward to meeting you this winter when I get to ABQ.

We've had a couple of members who had the lapbad. However, the majority of our group has had Rny with a few sleeves. Also, I'm sure you are aware that Drs. Acosta & Lara hold monthly meetings as well. From what I can tell, there are a few lapbanders at that meeting. In addition, the lapband forum here is also very helpful. Feel free to come to our meeting - you might find some information that may be of help.
