ANYONE IN NEW MEXICO?

I need to know if anyone in New Mexico does gastric bypass surgery. I found names of docs online (Fry, Terry, Kgridebaugh, Demarest, Perera) but do not know if they are still practicing here. I attended a presentation in Albuquerque a week ago. I am sure the program in Scottsdale is nice, but I cannot afford the 'extras' involved. I have been told my insurance will pay for surgery, but it will not pay for hotels, airfare, 'patient packs', and other such nonsense. I need a doc here in NM that I can drive to. I heard there was one in Las Cruces, but can't seem to locate him. El Paso would be easier for me than AZ, since I have family in Las Cruces. Please, if you can give me info, I would be so very happy!

Hi Suzanne - There are no bariatric surgeons currently working in New Mexico. I went through the program at Scottsdale (Dr. Blackstone) and they were wonderful. But, you are correct. It is expensive for all the travel. Your best bet would probably be Dr. Freeza in Lubbock or the El Paso doctors. You can find out about the El Paso docs by selecting Resources in the yellow line at the top of the screen, selecting the state you are interested in, and then selecting the heading Bariatric Surgeons. Their are people in the Albuquerque support group who have had their surgeries performed by the Del Sol group in El Paso and they seemed happy with the results/care. Also someone had Dr. Applebaum perform her surgery and I believe he is in El Paso also. If you have family in Las Cruces, it does help. I had surgery by Dr. B. Dean McDaniel in Victoria Texas and he is an excellent surgeon and has a great bariatric group, but it is a ways to travel. I have family there, and that has helped me so much. I'm from Gallup, NM and I went through the weightloss institute of arizona and Drs. Orris and Debarros did my laproscopic rny on May 8th 2006. I'm doing great. Feel great. Jeni

I'm in Albuquerque and I went to Dr. Frezza. I made 1 trip before my surgery for my consult. I had all my tests done and I even got to see the nutritionist.
