Support Group Meeting Was Today (Long)
Well, today I had a really slow start, maybe I shouldn't stay up so darn late. My gosh, I have got to start getting a decent bed time. I woke up at 7am, but unseemingly fell back into bed. I wanted to have a shower and dress and out the door by 730, but hey I actually got my rolling hills of flubber out of bed at 730. So I was out of house by 8am. Drove to Lubbock for the support group meeting and arrived on time. Thank goodness it didn't start on time and considering others I was early.
Had a wonderful time at the meeting. I got to meet those that I have only read profiles on, or just occasionally spoken too on the MMB. I have to say that it was nice to be around other people who were in the same situtation as me. I felt like I belonged and even though I dont really know these people all that well, I felt like, I was home. The first time I have felt like that since I have moved to Clovis. Dr. Freeza was not there and for some reason I was relieved. We talked about nutrition the whole time, with of course the occasional OT conversation.
I wasn't going to go today, I thought that why should I go and drive that far for just an hour meeting with people I dont even know. What a stupid head I am. I am so glad that I went. I am so glad that the person *****sides in this body decided to get out and meet. She so wants to be free to do things without thinking will the body hold her back or keep her from making friends. Once me, myself and the body got there we were all pleased at how we felt. (ok enough of the creepy talk in the 3rd person. LOL)
Our wonderful nutritionist, Christie, had lots of samples for us that were great protein alternates. I have to say that I thought that they all tasted pretty good. I would like to share them with you.
1. Optisource Mini Nutrition Bar: it was fairly small so it was not very overwhelming. It comes in chocolate and actually tasted better than some other bars out there. It has 10g Carbs and 7g Protein. I really dont think that I will be eating this anytime soon, but when I am in the upper phases of eating, then I may use it as a snack if I should be on the run and need to eat.
2. Optisource High Protein Drink: comes in the flavors of carmel and strawberry. I did not taste the strawberry, but some said that it was pretty good. I did try the carmel and I think if you blended it with some ice it would taste fairly close to a Carmel Frap. It comes in 4oz containers and has 6g Carbs and 12g Protein. I will be using this after my phaseI of my diet which is basically clear liquids for 2 weeks.
3. Optisource Chewable Vitamin and Mineral Supplement: I was very impressed with this vitamin. It has 125mcg of B12 which is 2083% and you are suppose to take it 4 times a day. The taste kind of reminded me of a cross between Vitamin C chewable and a baby tylenol. It wasn't gritty and did not leave a nasty after taste. The bottle contains a 30 day supply (120 tablets)
Now all three of these things were made by novartis and was made for the Bariatric Community. If you are interested you can check it all out at this web site: http://www.walgreens.com/store/productlist.jhtml?navAction=pop&navCount=1&CATID=301120
There is also free shipping. If I knew of another place to get them I would put it, but hey I don't so if any of you know else where, than please let me know and I will put it here.
4. Roadside Lemonade Whey Protein Isolate by Nectar: I thought it was fairly good. I think I will want to water it down a little though because it is kind of strong. It would be very good as a icey though. There are other flavors also and you can find them at www.bariatriceating.com
(Now I support Susan Maria's web site, because I prefer to support someone who has been where I am now and is smart enough to take advantage of a growing market. Plus she is like really really nice. LOL) There were no carbs and 23g Protein. My thought on this is that after I am done with my 2 weeks liquid diet (phase I) that I will just fill up my water bottle (1/2 gallon) and put three of these little packets in it and whalla I have gotten all of my protein in along with a little more with what ever food I do put in my gapping whole called a mouth.
Now for the REALLY GOOD PART OF MY STORY. As we were getting ready to leave. I told the girls in the office "Oh, by the way I was told to tell you to move my surgery up to July 6th." At first they just looked at me and didnt know what to say. I told them that I was kidding and laughed. Well to my surprise they look at me and tell me that that was weird because that date is open. OMGoodness "pencil me in, pencil me in!!!" They tell me to call on Monday and see if they have all my paperwork and if they do they WILL!!!!! Can you say I am freaking out. My stomach is still in my uterus, at least that is how it feels. Everytime I think of it, bile seems to creep up my throat like I am going to throw up. Let's talk about excitement and scarey all at the same time. So any of you who may read this tonight, put a prayer in for me to have my date move up in July.
That is about it for my day. So love ya'll and God Bless.
