head out of state for WLS

Go to another state where there are docs with LOTS of experience in WLS.......................try major cities in Texas and California. Worth the expense to avoid the NM docs who either have little experience with this, ancient experience..............or, for example, the doc in Las Vegas who has not been credentialled by a hospital for bartiatric surgery. Makes you wonder if he learned the basics between holes at a golfing medical meeting. Your health is worth looking outside the land of enchantment.

Did you go see Dr Igwe speak at the support group this past week?

NO, I did not hear him speak. I rely on credentials and experience and not a talk. Good that he is a nice guy..........that is not enough for me. Hope you have or had a good experience.

I'm not trying to argue with you on this subject, matter-of-fact, I have done in depth research on this and find that I do not want to go to the Dr. that my insurance approved me for which is in Lubbock. Unfortuneately, to go where I want to go I have to fight my insurance and had to hire a lawyer. So I understand where you are coming from, but there is a whole lot of New Mexicans that do not have other options or they have to use the Dr. that their insurance tells them to use. After hearing Dr Igwe, I believe what he said about getting a center in NM. I also believe that he cares for his patients.

Hi Ya'll~ Dont mean to barge in on your conversation....I also went out of state for my WLS surgery. There were/are no doctors here in the Texas panhandle (Dr Frezza was not in Lubbock at the time when I was searching for a surgeon) that performed LapBand surgeries. So I went with a wonderful doctor in Oklahoma City. Who also has a LapBand himself. I think I was his 75th band placement. I felt totally at ease with his credentials and his experience in Laproscopic procedures. I was also lucky that my insurance covered everything out of state 100% (including the pysch eval and the nutritionist) There is nothing wrong with looking outside of your homestate for a great surgeon, like Susan said... The only drawback Im finding is lack of follow up care and support. Having to drive 4 hours one way for a fill is a bit of a pain in the tushie, but thank god I havent experienced any problems since being banded. Good Luck to all!! Your Texas neighbor, Bonnie -79lbs

What a cry baby. I'm frankly getting sick and tired of reading all the "autorities" on WLS that post here on this board. Do you really think you are the first and only people to research WLS? And pray tell what makes your research so far superior than other people? Where do you get off saying that the Doc's here in this state do not have experience? Makes me feel like you don't have a clue what your talking about. Quit crying and just make a decison for Pete's sake.... and if you decide that no one is good enough for your comfort .... move on with your life. Jan
