I need advice! My husband's new insurance policy (Healthsmart PPO) has a specific exclusion for bariatric surgery! (As did the previous insurance we just switched from). Any advice? I hear that you can get surgery financed - anyone here that has done that and can give me details? If you have advice or can help, please contact me at [email protected]. Thanks!

Hi Anna, I'm from Carlsbad and fully understand your frustrations. Do not give up hope. Have you went through the appeal process? I am retaining Walter Lindstrom, attorney from CA to assist me in approval. Have you thought about trying that. There are websites for financing but I don't know what they are. If I come across them,I will email them to you. Good luck. Carol

Hi Carol - thank you for responding so quickly! We are neighbors - I'm in Artesia! I hear that there is a bariatric surgeon in Carlsbad - he has a very strange name and I'll have to look it up... I have insurance through my husband at Navajo Refinery - he's part of the union and interestingly enough the office people have a plan that would cover the surgery, but the union guys got a lot of the cuts on the insurance policy. I went to the Bariatric Treatment Center in Phoenix December 1st for an evaluation - they said I definitely qualify for surgery. I don't have the money to retain a lawyer - all I can do is try the sample appeal letters on this website and try my luck one more time. My other option I think is to take out a policy from an independant insurer and pay for several months until I qualify. That way I can control what is covered under my plan.. What do you think? I would love to hear any advice you might have to offer..... Thank you so much for your time..... Anna Bethke
