Hi, I am trying to find out who writes the letter for approval to the insurance company. Does the surgeon's office (Dr. Fry) write the letter or my pcp? I have presbyterian insurance and am considered morbidly obese. My pcp thinks I would need to show 1-2 years of medically supervised weight-management. I want to get the process started asap.

I think the surgeons office petitions the insurance company for approval. Your pcp would probably write a letter of medical necessity recommending you for surgery to the surgeon. At least that is how I have seen it go. Hope this is helpful.

Hi there! I just had my surgery Nov 19th. My surgeon was Dr. Maria Terry, she is in the same office with Dr. Fry. I also have Presbyterian Health. The Dr.'s office will submit the letter for you, and as doubtful as I was about being approved I was immediatly surprised to find I was approved within the week of the submission. Good luck to you, I am sure all will go well, if you have any questions I would be happy to share my experience. Tiffany
