Moving to Holloman soon....

My husband is active duty Air Force and we've been given orders to Holloman. We're not sure on a time frame, but no later than August is what he's been told.

I haven't had surgery yet... actually expecting  aphone call today sometime to get the ball rolling. I know I want to have the surgery before we move out there, since there are no WLS surgeons in New Mexico.

My question to you all is... do you know of any plastic surgeons? In case I need excess skin removal surgeries? I've my fingers crossed that I won't have to have them, but I'm also a realist. I've been heavy for most of my adult life, and I carry my weight all over. I think the latter will actually keep the amount of saggy skin down.

Thanks in advance!

First, sorry to hear about you getting orders here :( Hopefully you will like it, but I sure don't. It's depressing. Anywho, I go Tuesday to get my first evaluation with Dr Applebaum is El Paso, TX.('it's about an hour away from Holloman, if you wanted to wait for surgery) He was the one I was hoping to get a refferal with and out of all the surgeons tricare gave me him. I don't know of any plastic surgeons, should be easy to look some up though. I will probably need a tummy tuck as well. Good Luck!

Good luck with your evaluation with Dr. Applebaum :-)

We're moving before July 15th now... but still not sure on a date. How long will y'all be there? Perhaps we could meet for coffee er somethin :-)

I've lived in Idaho, so the barren landscape won't bother me too much... I hope!

Hello Cecilia,
I just moved from that area (Alamogordo) to near Albuquerque. Be willing to travel to get WLS, it's not the worst thing in the world. I went all the way to NY for my surgery. It was worth traveling to get the surgery I felt would work best for me.

Thanks :-)

Yeah I've talked with a few people in that area who have traveled to El Paso for their WLS. I'll have to see a Dr regularly for fills, since I'm getting the lap band. I think I'll be getting banded before we PCS.

Looks like your WLS has done ya well :-)

Ms Understood,

I know all to well about traveling to get cut. I am on Sunday boarding the train in Lamy to Los Angeles for my surgery on Wednesday (4/8/09) of next week. The train seemed to be the least painful way to get there and back, considering I will be needing to get up and walk every so often.  I found that the band and RNY were out of the question for me because of my size, but I could do the RNY though it would not be as effective as getting the DS. I cant wait.
