Hello and Any Advice Would be Helpful

Hello, I'm new here. I've been checking out the website and what not for a little while, but finally decided to come here for some advice and support. I had my gastric bypass surgery 2 weeks ago and I'm having what I consider a rough time. I felt okay post-op, until about a week afterwards and then for several days I felt like a truck had run me over. I guess I'm just having a rough time with the weekness, and the foods and liquids I can take in. I feel like I can barely get in fluids, everything tastes nasty. Water even tastes gross. The Sonic Rt 44 cup of crushed ice is my only savior sometimes. I usually eat a full cup of ice each day. I've tried drinking the crystal light stuff and it's okay, kool-aid wth splenda is okay too, but I can't take in much of it and so I know I'm not getting my recommended fluid intake. Food is not going in so easily either. I keep hearing that everyone is different and it takes time, but I just hate feeling bad all the time. I don't have a lot of pain, occasionally on my left side near my ribs and I've only had a couple of days of nausea. I just would like to hear from others what can I do to feel better.  Any advice would help. I can really even get my protein because the thought of it makes me want to gag. Help please!

Hi Ann,

I'm sorry you aren't feeling good.  There is a ton of help on these boards.  Go to the bastric bypass boards and you'll find lots of support and advise.  I do think if you can get in your liquids and not get dehydrated you'll feel alot better.
I had stomach stapling 19 yrs ago and still remember feeling like someone smacked me witha 2x4.  I got better and started feeling good about 1 month out.  Funny how I still remember that when I can't remember what I did yesterday!!!

Do you live in NM?  Let me know how your doing,  Darlene

Do you like yogurt?   I buy the plain non fat yougurt from walmart and put sugar free dry pudding in it until it tastes good..........   yum.  I even sucked on a spoon of low fat peanut butter, yum love peanut butter.  There is sugar free syrups (I have strawerry and Rasberry) I add that to my vanilla whey protein (1 scoop at a time)  with some splenda and maybe throw in just a few frozen blueberries or strawberries and yum............  ice, water and blend in the blender and I could drink that all day.
You need to get your protein in extremely important so experiment..........   I drink decaf coffee and have even put that into my protein shake because I love the coffee taste.
Good Luck..............   keep up with you liquids.........  what about sugar free pudding?
