Hello, I am considering WLS and am looking for a surgeon in Albuquerque.  Are there any out there? if so can anyone recommend one?  Thanks.

Hi there -- Welcome! I have not found a WLS surgeon in NM, period. The closest is in El Paso - and they do not do the DS. Therefore, I am looking at a surgeon in Houston right now. Need to get my PCP stuff lined up before tackling the surgeon and insurance.

I don't think there is a surgeon in NM who does WLS.  As stated above, some New Mexican's go to El Paso, Houston or Phoenix.  I found a wonderful surgeon in Flagstaff if you're interested.  He really worked great with my out of town schedule and insurance company.  Good luck in your journey!

Katherine -- does your surgeon perform the DS? Also - how was your insurance approval process? Thanks.

I'm not sure if he does the DS or not but I will sure find out for you (give me until Monday).  I was extremely impressed with my surgeon (Dr. Burger) as well as his partner and the entire office staff.  Nancy (Dr. Burger's nurse) is a pro at getting insurance approval and was amazing with my approval.  I provided 5 years of health/weight history showing that I had been on every kind of diet under the sun with no permanent results which resulted in my insurance company waiving the 6 month "Doctor Monitored" pre-diet.
A time span for me... I went to an informational session in February, 2008.  The next day I saw Dr. Burger.  I had to have several test (sleep apnea, esophageal motility {not sure on that spelling!}, upper GI, etc) all before surgery.  I had surger 05-29-08, however, if my schedule would have permitted I could have had surgery two weeks earlier.  His office is great when it comes to working with out-of-towners.

Hello there I'm in the beginning stages of the process of getting WLS. I'm going to Flagstaff with Dr. Aldridge. He works with Dr. Berger the one who did Katherine's surgery. I don't have a date yet, but I'm getting all the necessary insurance stuff together. My insurance requires a 6 month dr supervised diet. I have United Healtcare.

Yea Jules, glad to see you joined the OH forum..........  I love coming here for advice, support, and food ideas.  I gained a few lbs so now i'm getting back to the basic's and I already feel thinner.
I love what WLS has done for me.
