Looking for a surgeon in NM

Hi I am new here and I am trying to find a surgeon to do a Lap Band here in NM.  I can't seem to find anybody at all.  If anybody could please help me I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Jeni

I don't think there are any in NM, most people have to travel out of state.

Hello, I am in NM and as far as I know there are no surgerons in NM I had my surgery at Del Sol in El Paso Texas. Alot of people from Nm go there. The surgerons there are wonderful. Good luck to you and keep me posted Where are you in NM? Kelly

Hi Kelly- thank you.  How did it go there at Del Sol?  How many times did you have to travel there before and after your sugery?  I live in Rio Rancho, NM - just a little northwest of Albuquerque.  Traveling so far and for who knows how many times would be too hard for me- I just don't have the money to do it.  Anyways, thank you :)  Jeni

Kelly & Jeni: I am going to a seminar in Albuquerque this month put on by Del Sol. The surgery will be in El Paso but I know there are several times people from NM go there for surgery, as I will. Have you considered car pooling? My insurance, although NM Lovelace, will only approve Del Sol or Dr. Frezza in Lubbock. And Kelly - how was Del Sol. Did you have Dr. Acosta? I live in Las Cruces and my surgeon was Dr. Frezza in Lubbock.

Debbie: How did you like Dr. Frezza? Any problems getting approved with your insurance? Did they help you with the process? Any problem getting appointment? That kind of thing. Any information would be helpful. Thank you for replying.

My experience with Frezza went smooth. Dr. Frezza is very knowledgeable about the lap band. He is very thorough. His staff was very helpful and friendly. I went for my first consult on March 28 (just 2 days after i called for an appt.) and had my surgery July 5th. He gives you alot of forms and questionairres to fill out. He gives you a long list of tests to get done before surgery. When all the tests are complete and they have the reports, they put together a "package" to submit to the insurance company. My insurance was Presbyterian and I was approved in just 1 week. I had my surgery 2 weeks later. After all my reports were in, it took the doctors office about 2 weeks to put together the package for the insurance company.  I know a couple of his patients that have had a harder time. They didn't "click" with Dr. Frezza's personality. It took his office a couple months to submitt to insurance. Dr. Frezza is very busy and some months are busier than others.  I was very pleased with the whole process. Good Luck to you and feel free to email me anytime. Debbie

Thanks for the info. I am still gathering info and submitting info to Dr. Frezza and Dr. Acosta at Del Sol. I am hoping one of them can get me in for a consult so I can see how all of this goes. I know it will be time consuming but I would like to choose whichever is best for me and right now I don't know which one that is. Any info on either helps me out. Is it hard to get followup appointments with Dr. Frezza? And anyone with experience with Dr. Acosta and Del Sol - any info is greatly appreciated.   Cindy
