Hi! I am in the same boat....I would not trust anyone in New Mexico to do it. What about a neighboring state? Have you found out any information regarding WLS and Medicaid? The only info I have been able to find thus far is on Medicare. Thanks!

Gina, I had to chuckle about not trusting anyone in New Mexico to do the surgery. I live in Santa Fe and I panic anytime I take my animals to the vet. I have ins. through my husbands employer but I had my rny in Lubbock Texas with Dr. David Syn. I did alot of research when selecting my Dr. The only place I would have rather gone was So Calif. Dr. Syn is a wonderful Dr. and I beleive that one of his patients said that he accepts medicaid. Good luck on your journey. Mary Ann

Hi Gina I am doing fine. No complications I am able to follow my Drs. protocol and I am down 25 lbs. I was hoping for more but my Dr. said that sometimes people that had type 2 diabetes sometimes take a little longer to lose. That's great that you grew up in Lubbock I just love that town and everyone is so nice and friendly. I attend support group meetings In Abq . I will contact you when I go next time and maybe you can join me. Everyone is very nice and informative. Take care, Mary Ann

hello ladies, I am from the Lubbock area as well Littlefield to be exact, I now live in Rio Rancho, NM I had lap-band surgery last February in Houston and have only lost 20 lbs, I have type 2 diabetes ,maybe that is the reason, my Doctors have no suggestions for me my band is at capacity and I feel almost no restrictions ,but continue to try but feel quite depressed most of the time I am disabled and unable to move around too much I have fallen twice lately, I was tempted to try to have the gastric bypass done by Dr Syn but need to talk to you Mary Ann and see how your results are if it works better than the lap-band for people with type 2 thanks for the help and good luck to you all Janet

I have medicaid. I have found two Dr. in lubbock. Dr. Freeza will do the lap band and Dr. David Syn will do the by-pass. I'm going with Dr. Syn on Jan 25. There are a lot of help you can get with medicaid, travel, testing, lodgeing post op. Call to get a case manager and she should be able to get the ball rolling. Good Luck BLDutcher.

my neighbor had the surgery in lubbock with dr. syn and she used medicaid to pay for it. she said she didn't have to pay anything out of pocket. which was excited for me to hear because i have been searching for a way to pay for my own WLS. but good luck!!
