Topic: How to build muscle from sitting position.
Here is a link to a little video I found. The guy in the video is sitting on one of those
excercise balls while do his but I use a foot stool from one of those glider rockers
it works just as good. It glides back and forth. Plus, he is doing everything 50 times.
I am starting with only 10 of each. It helps when you are not an active person or can't
get out and walk. It will help you build up some muscle tissue. Then , eventually we
might to that stage when we can get out and do some walking... hope it helps.

Ohh Tina, I am also getting one of those excercise bands you were
telling me about. My sister-in-law is bringing me out one from town
when she comes this weekend. So, I will have the weights and the
band to to work with.

Hi Tracy: It's nice to hear an update from you. It's good to hear how differently
you and Jenn are in your post-op dieting. So, we realize that if we can't eat the
way Jenn is progressing it's okay. We will all progress in our own time and it's
okay if we decide to stay on fluids for 4 weeks then go to mush for 3-4 weeks.
If we don't feel up to eating more solid foods at 6-8 weeks. That's okay. Are you
finding your clothes falling off yet? I know Jenn is a very active person from what
I've seen of her when we met. With her walks at work etc. so she is progressing
along faster. That is my problem, I am not active and I have to try each day just to
get up and move. Thanks for sharing anything you feel comfortable with Tracy.
We appreciate all updates.

Well, 30 lbs. must be the magic number. That's what he asked me to lose too.
I started on Fri. the 17th. and I have 6 lbs. gone already....whooo hooo. I couldn't
believe it when I stepped on that retched scale ( the enemy) this morning. It's the
first time I checked it. Maybe I can start thinking of it as a friend after all. i am not
finding it too difficult to stay on my diet because I chose to do one that I like. I've got
to have bread or I would starve... so, I only eat whole wheat, love my fresh fruit and
veggies, So, I eat  breakfast of whole wheat toast, or raisin bran, or Special K. Then
a boost everyday for lunch... and then a light supper. drinking lots of water, if I have
anything at night it's fruit like an apple or grapes. or carrot sticks dipped in light
dipping sauce. Nothing fried. and not a lot of starches. a little bit of pasta to make
like tuna salad. It is working for me anyway. Good Luck with yours Tina... I'll be
routing for you. I have to go now and figure out how to put the weight scale thingy
in ... if you are brave enough to do it so can I....

Trying again to see if it works... please be here now...>LOL

Congrats on the downsizing Jenn... It's nice to have that complaint the other way
instead of I have nothing that fits because you grew out of it. We all know that
one. Shrinking out of it is awesome. Have fun in T.O.

Topic: Pre-op diet here we go!
Okay, so I told Dr. Pace last Thursday that I would lose 30 pounds before surgery.  Took me a couple of days to work my head around to it and today is Day 1.  I am going on the Aitkins diet because that is the only one that has ever worked for me.  I have lost 24 lbs in one month before on this diet.  I've never been able to stick with it for much more than an month but I can usually maintain the weight loss for a couple of months afterward.  My plan is to stay on Aitkins until I leave for vacation July 29 and then maintain my weight loss over my three weeks vacation.  I get back from vacation around August 20 and I hoping not too long after that I will have to do the 2 week liquid pre-op diet that should help me lose a few more pounds.  I have 5 and 1/2 weeks until my vacation and I want 25 pounds gone by then.

The Aitkins diet consists of eating mainly lean meat, low carb veggies, eggs and cheese.  Many of the same things we will eat once we're on solid foods after surgery.  In order for me to lose weight on this diet I will have to keep my carbs below 20 per day which is not easy.  Expecially since theses day I get shaky if my blood sugar drops below 5 (and tired if it goes above 6 - Crazy Hey).  I tried this diet last month and only lasted 5 days (lost 7 1/2 pounds) because my blood sugar regulated itself at about 4.9 and I constantly felt weak.  This time weak or not I'm going to stick with it.  Hopefully at some point down the line my body will adjust.  After all, what's 5 weeks out of the rest of my life.  If this gets me to the point that I need to be for surgery this fall then so be it.

Wish me luck.

Wonderful to hear Jenn.  Have fun in Toronto.

Yes, we will have to say goodbye to our favourite clothes and move on to new favourites.  The worst thing is you will go through several sizes in the next year or two.  That could get expensive.  I have read on sites in other locations they have a clothing exchange.  They have a get together a couple of times a year and everyone brings in their clothes that too big.  They give their clothes to others who are still larger and get more from others who are closer to their goal.  Maybe thats something we could consider down the line.

Topic: One month surgaversary!
One month since the VSG and I feel fantastic.

Down a full size already - oh, you would cry if you saw all the beautiful clothes 3x/22 I had to remove from my closet this weekend! (bittersweet tears, of course!)

I am heading to Toronto for vacation tomorrow and thank goodness I kept a box of clothes I fit in to EIGHT years ago on my honeymoon, otherwise I wouldn't have anything to wear!

While overall I have been feeling good, all is not roses - Friday night I almost had to go to the hospital with an impacted bowel - it was the most traumatic thing I have gone through since childbirth - the pain was unreal.  It was beyond gross. It took me the whole weekend to rest and get over it. Morale of this disgusting story: GET YOUR WATER - also, I now add a capful of Restolax to my shakes.

Lastly, wishing a happy surgaversary to my Sleeve Buddy Tracy - can't wait to see you on the 4th! I have the guest room all ready for you. :)

Oh, yeah, I am also seeing Dr. Pace for my follow-up today - will try and update with deets if there is anything interesting to share. :)

Love to all,
Jenn
