Thanks for the updates, Jenn. I'll be in st. Johns on August 25 and 26 for meetings and a few days before and after labor day to get my girls started on their own at their schools.  Maybe we can grab a coffee.

I'm on Facebook if you or anyothers want to "friend" me there too.  Tammy A Drew

Great idea Jenn - I'm in. I do think the fall would be a better time - given summer holiday plans and such. As for a best day for me - being a shift worker - it's not really that critical. Maybe you should start with seeing what times would work for Dr. Pace and Raleen? Is there a psychologist who sees Dr. Paces pre-op patients? As well - I have read that a lot of pre-ops have had to have a sleep apnea study done. Do you think it would be worthwhile to try to get an Respiratory Technologist to speak at our proposed symposium? (as I will call it for now). Once you get a date in mind - let me know so I can put in for vacation time if need be - in my line of work - most times we have to fight tooth and nail to get a shift off - there is just no coverage. Keep me posted!

Ladies, I have been wondering if perhaps we should try getting together in person?

My idea was that we could get together for a day or part of a day that could be part social gathering, part support meeting, and also perhaps invite some speakers like Dr. Pace, Raleen Murphy the Nurse Practioner, and Rhoda Crawley the dietician.

I know for some of you that would mean travelling into St. John's, and obviously some of us work, so maybe you could reply to let me know if you are interested, and if so, when would be a good time to aim for - a Saturday? a Sunday? a weekday? August? September? October?

I can probably handle the logistics - find us some meeting area in the Health Sciences Centre, maybe even find us some funding to cover a meal or some snacks. Maybe even subsidized accommodations, if anyone needs some help on that end.

Mary C, if you are reading this, I would really hope that it would be something you could get in for, as a long-time bariatric surgery supporter and success story.

Thoughts?

UPDATE

Rhoda and Raleen told me that there have been no more VSG surgeries yet scheduled and they imagine it will be September before Dr. Pace starts again, what with the summer schedules in the OR and everything.

Great to hear from you!!  I have not heard a thing and trying to stay positive. I am doing my best to stay healthy in the meantime but it is hard. I started counselling with a psycologist inorder to deal with any issues  before, during and after.

I would love to get a consultation appointment. that would be great

Hi Jenn,

Thanks for the welcome :-)  Things went well with my doctor, she was sending a new referral to Dr. Pace along with all my information saying that MCP has already approved the surgery.  She told me she would have the referral sent off to Dr. Pace's office and to call Dr. Pace's office around the middle of next week to make sure they received it!  My doctor didn't actually know that Dr. Pace was even doing the surgery here, she said she didn't get any kind of notification of this at all and the first she was hearing of it was when I told her about it. She was very thankful because she also has another patient who is hoping for surgery as well.  I told her it was thanks to this forum and the people posting on it that I found out about it.  I'm very happy to have found such a great group of people!!!

Also, I meant to mention that they now have a Nurse Practitioner (NP) hired full time to oversee the bariatric program here at Eastern Health - her name is Raleen Murphy and I am meeting with her again today, along with the dietitian Rhoda Crawley.

As a NP, Raleen will be able to order blood work and prescribe medication - I expect that she will be our primary contact throughout our journeys.

She doesn't have an office set up yet - BUT, I know that she has been on this forum reading our posts as part of her research, so I am sure that she will "out" herself when she is ready.
