Topic: RE: HELP !!! Does anyone else have trouble with fluid?
Terri you could try the full liquid diet for a couple of weeks and see what happens.  I've got three days in now and I definitely see a difference in the amount of water I'm retaining.  I am getting 10-12 cups of water/other fluids daily and watching the salt in what I do have.  I am losing about 1 pound a day so far but my legs are definitely less puffy at the end of the day.  The first day was really hard,  the seconds was a little better, and yesterday was actually OK.  I know you still have awhile before surgery but if it gets you to lose the extra you need you get your 30 gone its worth it isn't it.  You can email Rhoda and she can send you the details.

Ohh he knows (doc) I've had this problem for 20 yrs. but it has gotten worse in the last 5.
I've developed Cellulitus. It's been an on going battle for some time now. At one time, I
was taking 5 different diretics at one time. Helped for a while but know body can tell me
what causing it. I am hoping losing the weight will help a little .

 Hi Terri,

The salt actually comes from the processing...I think the average can of Tuna has about 300mg of salt- often more.  But there are Tuna packed in water without salt.   Even canned tomatoes, sauces, frozen foods all have tons of hidden salt.

I have become good at cooking on the weekends and freezing for the week and I have notice a difference in the amount of water I retain.   It takes some advance plannnig but it is really nice to get home after work and know that supper is ready.   Now I am guilty of a a frozen pizza  or some wings from time to time.  But I really try to stay away from processed foods.    And those little frozen dinners are the worst!!!!!!!!

And if you are retaing a lot of fluid and your diuretic is not working, please go back to see your Doctor and let him/her know....

I hate to say this and I am no expert but it sounds like your husband is trying to sabatoge your weight loss.  He may not even realize he is doing this.  You said he is not interested in losing weight.  He may be afraid of losing you if you do lose the weight.  Reasure your husband that you love him no matter what and that it doesn't matter what size you are or what size he is you aren't going anywhere.  Maybe then he will be more supportive of your efforts.

Thanks Trina. I have been eating tuna a lot. I love tuna salad and sandwiches.
I haven't thought about checking the can for salt. I buy it in water. But, I bet there
is a lot of salt in it. Just because it was in the ocean.

 Hi Jenn,

Make sure you are not eating processed or canned foods.   That is where the greatest majority of the salt in our diets comes from...  You may think you are not eating much but it is in everything you buy.

Wow 70 pounds!!  Is that including the pre-op liquid diet or just since surgery?  Either way fantastic!!  I'm doing good.  I started my liquid diet yesterday and that really sucks but I will adjust.  I have to go to St. John's again on the 9th for the follow up visit with Ralene and Rhoda.  I really hope to get my date then.
