Topic: Newfoundland VS Ontario
Hello,

I am from Ontario and am currently waiting for my surgery date for Gastric Bypass. My mom, is in Newfoundland and just got a referral to Dr. Pace for surgery too. I was wondering if anyone out there could tell us a little about the process in the province of Newfoundland?

For me I had to do the following:

Nov- referral to Bariatric Registery
Dec-Attended information session
Jan-Met with Dietitian
Feb-Met with Psychologist
March-Met with Dietitian again
April- Had Ultrasound, Ecocardiogram and Scope
July-Met with Surgeon
Aug- Attended post-op eating seminar
Currently waiting for surgery date.

How is the wait time in NL?

Thanks so much for any information you can provide :))))

Thanks all.  My husband got the call today from a nurse on the team.  They do the sleeve only.  He has to lose about 40 pounds before they will consider him for the sleeve...  Hope he puts his mind to it and gets it done! I have about 60 pounds to lose myself.  Considering the procedure too :)

I was told in June that right now they are only doing the sleeve at this time.  Patients have been referred for other surgery and ended up getting the sleeve.  You husband can discuss that at his appointment.  The lapband has a low success rate and can have serious complications.  Many people who get the band end up getting a revision to the sleeve.

Topic: Is it Just ME or Does Anyone Else ??
Im just curious, the more i read this forum,
the more anxiety and disapointment sents in
reading about ones who are set up for there dates
for surgery or getting ready to  go in to get theirs
done, or starting there liquid diet to  get closer to there
dates etc,

is it just me or does this/is this making anyone else feel
this way ? Especially when its comming from ppl
who havent been waiting for so long to get this done
such as myself who have been waiting a lil over 11 yrs now.
but it makes my anxiety act up and my moods change and i get
anchious wondering why there r ppl getting in and getting done
or are closer to a surgery date then the ones who have been waiting so long.
*pls dont think im crazy* lol its just my emotions taking over and running wild..

Dr Pace told me before cmas -- but then he ended up not doing none over the summer
and now im told not till in the new yr, everything just seems to be a waiting game
i know ive waited 11 yrs i can wait a little longer but getting that news is just disapointing im sure i
am not the only one who feels that way, or please tell me im not
dont get me wrong the forum is a helpful resorce but also at times can be draining.

anyways thats just my thoughts for the day and wonder does anyone else
feel the same way i do.

Topic: Dr Pace Lapband
Hi All,

My husband was referred to Dr Pace 2 months ago.  We received a call from the Health Science center yesterday.  I know he is performing the gastric sleeve procedure and a few people I know have completed the surgery.

However, our dr would not refer him for the sleeve stating it was too invasive.  I know through friends at MCP, the government is now funding the lapband procedure.

Does anyone know if Dr Pace is performing this surgery yet?

Thanks
Deanna

I have one of those in my cupboard that someone gave me for Christmas last year.
I didn't even take it out of the box. I've just been putting the stuff in a water bottle
with a funnel and shaking. I was thinking about having to drag my big blender out
all the time to just mix that one little shake.
