I attended the meeting on Oct 12th at the HSC and they told us that there is now a five year waiting list for this surgery.

I'm pretty sure you have to be invited by the Bariatric team as there is a very long waitlist. The nurse told us at the meeting that there is now a five year waiting list for this surgery.

Would someone mind "friending" me on facebook and inviting/adding me to the group please. You can unfriend me after. I have my referral in (long ago) and should "fingers crossed" have a date in January. The link is to my FB profile.

Anyone know how I can join the facebook page for Dr. Pace's patients. i've done a search online but can not find the group at all. My surgery is coming up in the next few months and I can really use the support. I haven't even joined OH until now, I chose instead to lurk and just read, read, read. Didn't see the sense of having a profile before, when I had no progress to report. :(  I spoke to Kara today and I should be done before the end of January. So I feel like I'm finally ready to start this road!

Hi there - GREAT JOB!!!! And I do agree with you - counselors are needed. I just noticed the Bariatric Program in Thunder Bay is advertising for a Nurse Practitioner. Perhaps the St. John's program should have a NP who could fill multiple roles with the program in St. John's - counseling being one of them. Congrats to you TDR on your success!!angry

Well 69.8 but close enoough!   Gone Forever!   Now I did lose 31 one of those over this past summer before my surgery.  But hey!  I worked my arse of for them too so they are counted!    I feel fantastic.   While I am having some challenges - mainly psychological right now - the battle is worth it.

My biggest recommendation for the program here in NL - counselors are needed.  After all we did not get this way because we have a healthy relationship with food.

I thank God everyday for the strength he is providing and send him thanks for the blessings of my family and friends who are supporting me!

Hi Safetyman,

There is a team at Eastern Health now performing the Vertical Sleeve gastric surgery - referrals from your family physician would go to Dr. David Pace at the Health Sciences Centre.

The wait list, as I understand it, is now about a 4-5 year wait, so I don't recommend delaying. :)

For more information, you can contact the nurse practitioner who coordinates the program at Eastern Health, Kara Slade, at [email protected].

All the best!

Jenn
