Hi Natasha! I am not aware of a doctor doing this surgery in Nfld. You can have the surgery somewhere else and then get the follow-up fills in St. John's. You can check out the Credit Valley Clinic in Mississauga (Ontario) at www. creditvalleyclinic.ca Hope this helps.

Dr Beausoleil is in Moncton NB. The wait is years. I have been waiting over 3 years to get into a specialist who will apply for approval. Once Medicare approves me I can go on Dr B's list. Then the wait is 3 to 5 years. You can pay privately. A lap band is 10,000.00 plus (I think) the cost of the band- 4,500.00. I don't know the cost of a by-pass. I have been told that cash moves you to the front of the line. Hope that helps.

Hi Susan ! Nice to meet you .... its always a pleasure to meet fellow newfies !! Now about the surgery , No I didnt have a long wait but that is because I paid for the surgery myself , as of right now the surgery is not being performed here , Dr David Pace has the expertise and the qualifications to operate but has not been successful in getting the Govt on board , his wish would be to have the procedure completely covered by MCP (which it should be) but they wont give him the go ahead ...I'm not sure how long its going to take but I wasnt willing to wait ... I was also well over 300 lbs and struggling, I think obesity is the most debilitating disease and it eats away at your self worth and diminishes your physical abilities not to mention the other co morbidities.... I can certainly relate to your story , the simplest things become a huge chore when your as big as I was and I couldnt take it anymore , I had tried and failed at every diet and this seemed like the only solution for me .... I am so pleased with my success even though it hasnt been easy , I have lost 90 lbs so far and feel so much better about myself ... Financially ,the surgery has set me back tremendously but I dont know if you can put a price tag on your health so I look at it as an investment in my health !! LOL makes it easier to justify ! but anyway thats pretty much it in a nutshell ... If ya have anymore questions dont hesitate to ask , I know how frustrating and tedious it can be looking for info ... you can email me at [email protected] take care Vicki

Hi, I am from newfoundland also. I just joined the site in hopes of meeting and getting some info from others with the same difficulties. Did you have a long weight for your surgery...did you have coverage? I have just started looking into it. I am over 300 pounds and can't seem to lose the weight. It is starting to prevent me from even walking know (my knees are giving me trouble). I thought the surgery could be done in newfoundland.
