We don't hate you at all, just wish we were in your shoes right now.
It is so frustrating having to wait sooo long. Plus, we can't get an answer about
where we are on the wait list. If we only new that it would help so much.
Good Luck and a speedy recovery Jenn. :)

This is very nice to know ...Thank you. Jenn
I also had to have an upper GI. I was told on
the phone to have my family doc. arrange it.

Hi Tina,
The interventions I have had so far are:
- March 22 - referral appointment with Dr. Pace at the clinics in the HSC (Health Sciences Centre) to discuss my candidancy for surgery. We chatted for under 5 minutes and he felt around my abdomen - a nurse took my weight and height afterwards.
- April 23 - met with the dieticians at HSC for a 1 hour appointment to review the 2 week trial liquid diet, the pre-surgery 8-day liquid diet, and other surgery-related dietary stages
- May 5 - got hooked up to the gear from the Puminary Function Lab at the HSC for an overnight sleep study, which I completed at home and returned the gear to them the next day
- May 10 - met with Dr. Jamie Farrell (hottie, BTW!), the respirologist to discuss results of sleep study. Received prescription for a CPAP machine. (see my blog for more on this)
- May 12 - met with respirology nurse at Lawtons and picked up my CPAP machine and have been using it every night since (it's awesome, I sleep so much better now)
- May 17 (tomorrow) - have follow-up appointment with dietician
- May 18 (Wednesday) - have 4 hour pre-admission appointment at the HSC
- May 20 - Surgery Day at the HSC
Hope some of this is informative!

I TOTALLY agree with Mary - don't wait - get a referral into Dr. Pace's office ASAP. From what I understand, he'll be doing 2 surgeries a week - which is under 100 a year, if you take into account vacations and whatnot. The waitlist will explode, especially as word gets out.
I just blogged about my own road to referral - http://www.obesityhelp.com/member/jdeon/blog/2011/05/16/the-road-to-referral/
Please don't hate me because it was a relatively short one - I KNOW I have a horseshoe up my bum. Pray that you all can get done soon too!

Hi - Anyone out there who had had a consult sent into Dr Pace - whether it was years ago - or recently - needs to follow up with phonecalls to make sure they are in his files. If you had a consult sent in years ago - there was no program - and heaven knows where your consult is. Get your doc to do a new one. Find out if they have it at Dr. Pace's office . I work in Health Care and know all about how one piece of paper can end up far from where it should be. These days - the health care system is stressed and things don't always go the way they should. So - if you are waiting - be pro-active - get on the phone - find out exactly what's up with your consult - and keep checking back. Good luck to you all!

Topic: Good for you guys!
I don`t live in Newfoundland but I am so happy to hear that this surgery will be available and paid for in your province. I had my surgery in Ottawa on April1, 2011. I fell great and down 50 LBS as of today. It was so unfair that you had to go out of province to get your weight loss surgeries. So if you`re contemplating or are in line for this surgery, good luck and post on this site often. This forum will help you a lot and as time goes by, more and more will hook up here. Thanks and good luck.

Hi everyone,
I thought I would share this site I've been using for the past few months. www.verticalsleevetalk.com/ It's a really good site for anyone considering VSG and also has good information for people considering other weight loss surgeries.
