Topic: Pre- and Post-Op Diet for NL Sleevers
Hi Tina and all,
The pre- and post-op diet guidelines they give you to follow are identical to those being used in Nova Scotia's Capital Health system - at the time I went through, they just printed off the ones from Nova Scotia to give me, as they haven't developed the NL version yet, although I expect it to be identical.
Here is the link to all of the handouts you need: http://www.cdha.nshealth.ca/obesity-network/weight-loss-surg ery-wls-information-handouts
Now, that being said, I am an obsessive researcher (and perhaps arrogant fool), so I DID tweak these diets a bit.
Recommended diets are SO variable, depending on the surgeon and where you get it done. I found this information (http://www.cornellweightlosssurgery.org/pdf/dietary_guidelin es_sleeve_gastrectomy.pdf) from Cornell University's bariatric program, which seems a bit more reasonable to me and my lifestyle.
In addition to the norms of protein shakes and yogurt, I have been having creamy mushy foods like scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes and hummus as of one week post-op as a result.
I let Sleevie (my new stomach) be my guide on how much to each and when, and I religiously track my eating on Livestrong.com's My Plate.
If you are really interested in what I have eaten pre- and post-surgery, I think the settings on my Livestrong profile will allow you to see it. Go to http://www.livestrong.com/profile/jenndeon/ and then visit my Food Diary to see what I have consumed and when.
It breaks it down by Calories, Fat, Cholesterol, Sodium, Carbs, Fibre, Sugars, and of course most importantly, PROTEIN.
I hope this is helpful!

Congratulations on your surgery and I wish you every sucess...Im so glad that finally there is someone taking this matter seriously in our province, I have been over 8 years advocating for such to be done here...there are so many doctors here in the province that can do this surgery but were never allowed to do it..its nice to finally see progress, I am a patient with a ? diagnois of cushings syndrome, and ? polycystic ovarian syndrome, which may interfer with me being accepted for this surgery..but I am hoping it wont..I was a patient at the health sciences, the end of april when my endocrinoligist ..dr, galway mentioned to me, that this was now being started, but I was later told I was not a canadate for surgery and believe it is due to my weight, Im not sure..if it is because they cannot do surgery on anyone over 300 pounds, do you know if this is a problem in order for people to qualify.Im just curious..I do wish you lots of success..and am proud our province is finally getting hip to the health care needs of those struggling with obesity..and obesity related disorders...cheers..

We are having mussels today - which are one of our favorites - and the bonus is = it's a wonderful food for us WLS peeps!
A 3 oz (85 g) portion of cooked blue mussels contains 20g of protein and only 147 calories. It is rich in iron, manganese, phosphorous, selenium, zinc and vitamins C and B12.
