Hi My GP put in the request for weightloss surgery for me as soon as she received the email on her  cel phone that MCP would be covering the cost for weightloss surgery.Yesterday I seen Dr Pace about an umbilical hernia and he told me that because of my size if he repaired the hernia it would reoccur. His advice was for me to lose the weight first.I have been trying to lose weight for many years and I told him that I have applied for the weightloss program. He agreed at this point it would be beneficial to me.I also told him I havent heard a word from anyone who manages the program.I am wondering how long it usually takes to hear from someone once your doctor applies.Does anybody in Newfoundland know? Dr Pace told me that everybody that has had the surgery are doing very well and they are doing several each week.

I am new here. I have an appointment to see Dr. Pace tomorrow. I have PCOS, and have been trying for 6 years to have a baby.

None of the infertility doctors in Newfoundland will help me, because of my weight. In Saskatchewan, I was told that as long as I was monitored bi weekly then I would be fine.

Makes you wonder??

Anyway, I am hoping that Dr. Pace will schedule me for surgery. Does anyone know what the wait times are?

Hi Guys....The journey is long I'm not gonna lie...I had my referal in last June and still waiting on surgery....I did my mandatory orientation meeting then my 2 week liquid trial and I saw Dr Boone and signed my O.R papers and they say I still have at least 6 to 12 months waiting for my surgery...very frustrating but I'm trying hard to get myself strong and healthy for my surgery...Sorry this is prob not what you guys want to hear...the first step is the referal so you guys are on the way.

Also I want to add....It seems everyone has a different time/ date...so I think we are all put in who the Doctors want , so just because I had my referal/ liquid etc doesn't meen I will be done before you guys....It just depepnds on the situation is what Im gathering and I would just go through the process with trying not to worry about dates cause trust me it's way too stressful.

I am in the same boat as you we have bben trying for 12 years to have a baby!!! and iv been trying to get the weight off longer than that..They seem to not want to bother with large women in my experience(the fertility doctors)..I am actually 40,so my time is running out and they recommend after the weightloss surgery we wait 2-3 years before trying..so I am REALLY upset with the wait to have my weightloss surgery done.As soon as mcp announced they would cover surgery my GP put gave me a referral...I still havent heard a word..and it affects me two fold because my biological clock is on MELTDOWN.....my heart is breaking waiting for this surgery and it is a very emotional thing to go through at the best of times,I am actually losing hope that I will be seen in time..

I feel for you....I would say that if its a yr or 2 wait it would be best for you to have a baby now but im not a DR ....could you call Kara and ask her, she is the bariatric cordinator for all this or even e-mail her....If you need the e-mail let me know k.

Hi....Yes MCP does cover WLS...VSG.  You have to have a bmi of 40 to 60 to qualify and your age is fine...Im not really sure what the age creteria is but 25 is good. You first need to get a referal from your family DR sent to Dr Pace, and then wait for the bariatric team to call with a mandatory orientation meeting...this could be at least a yr for all this to happen and then you will get all the info from that meeting...Good luck...like you I have struggled with my weight and Im now waiting for my call for surgery. Also when your family Dr sends the referal I would call a few weeks later to make sure they recieved it.....Good luck :)

I am 5'1" and 195lbs..have high blood pressure, severe depression, thyroid disorder, borderling disbetes..I want to get weight reduction surgery but my dr doesnt feel I'm 'fat enough"-  I am a vegetarian, I dont work out anymore but I am doing manual labour doing renos on my house all the time-I am female...I havent always been fat..I was even skinny and I mean ridiculously so after my 2 kids at 110lbs....this weight has changed my life..I cant do anything..I cant perform my job..I can barely walk my dog from the arthritis in my knees. Who can I contact here in NL if not my family Dr for help?
