 Hi Tracey,

Mine ws just over $2000 but my insurance covered everything but $200.   I have been using it for a couple of years and I can't describe the difference it has made in my life.  Also, I believe you have to be treating your sleep apnea to qualify for the VSG surgery.  Raleen would have more information for you.

Just to give you an idea of the impact of a CPAP machine - if I happen to go a couple of nights without it- my blood pressure rises about 20 points and my blood sugars go very high as well.  And of course I wake with a headache.

HW: 325  SW: 293.4  CW:235.0 Surgery Date Sept 10, 2012   Preop: - 31.6  M1:-22  M2: -16.6   M3: -13.6 First weight goal ACHIEVED!  On to my second goal - CENTURY CLUB!!!!

Unfortunately, I don't have insurance to cover the cost

Sounds like it makes a big difference though and if its needed in order to qualify for the VSG surgery, I guess I'd better start saving!

you can try renting one for a couple of months before you make your decision to buy it. That's what I did because I wasn't sure I would be able to sleep with it on so instead of wasting all that money I rented it for 3 months and then I bought it. Also if you rent it and then buy it the rental cost usually comes off the cost of the machine. Another reason it was good for me to rent was that in the couple of months I had it I discovered I needed a Bi-Pap machine not a C-Pap so I got to figure out what was best for me before I bought it.

And TDR is right it does make a huge difference on your life. I didn't think there was anything wrong with me until I started using the machine every night and after a week or so realized I was able to do a lot more because I was awake and had energy. Also I found my blood pressure to get better and blood sugars come down. It takes a bit of getting used to but it is worth it and I don't sleep without it any more, even if I take a nap, which doesn't happen very often anymore, I put it on because I know what sleep I get is much better after wearing my mask.

Hope this helps
Kash

PS If you need it the Bi-Pap was just over $3000

Thanks for the info!  I'm definately going to check into renting a machine before making a final decision on buying one!

Your best option is to rent one, then they will supply a mask because
they are expensive to buy. Also, most people don't even need the
machine after surgery. I hoping to lose mine.

The only problem buying them second hand is ... you would still want
your own mask to use with it and they are $300.00 each. Even if you bought
a used one and sterilized it. They are suppose to only be good for a year.
So, more than likely the mask is stretched out and won't fit your face properly.
